Hi Sarah, thank you for expressing your concerns. We strive to be an educational and eco friendly excursion. Over the 14 years we have been operating we are constantly observing and adapting our program to conserve the sea life to the best of our ability.

At that point we will not have an octopus in the program until we catch another one at a later time. The black capsule that you are referring to is a 40 gallon barrel that creates more than enough room for the 20 pound octopus as they prefer dark small places in their natural habitat. With regards to the plastic tags, we have welcomes our guests to write a memory of a loved one they want to remember and any donations that are raised go to fishing families that have died in the industry.

These funds are raised nation wide and help fill in the financial gaps. To our knowledge, we have not lost any tags at this point but we will continue to monitor. We understand that some parts of the program are not for everyone, but the tags are special for maybe guests. Not only did I get to see how the fishing took place but I witnessed hundreds of Bald eagles up close when the boat captain circled a certain place in the waterway and then began tossing handfulls of chopped up fish overboard and we watched the birds dive-bombing feeding themselves until they ran out of fish.
