Using a tube cutter, cut the ends of the copper tube so they are. This is done by placing the copper tube in the cutter and adjusting the cutting wheel to score the copper tube when twisted.

Keep adjusting the wheel so it is tight against the copper tube and twist the tube. Repeat this process until the copper is fully cut.

Using an awl poke holes at an angle through the top of the boat and out the back edge of the boat. The balsa wood is soft enough that this isn't difficult.
