Wildlife is abundant, with many rare migrant birds spotted either here or on the Wildlife Trust land nearby. The important stuff. We loved our weekend on The Raft! The cabin, and the setting, peaceful and perfect. The facilities are great Our 13 year old seemed to be in the rowing boat more than he was on The Raft, but we all had a go, in a weekend-long 'round the island' rowing competition.

A highlight for us was the starling murmuration each night - astounding for them to be in front of us and above us, like a private show, for up to half an hour at a time, before, at some invisible signal, dropping down into the reeds for bed. Utterly awe-inspiring Arriving after sunset wasn't ideal, but finding our way to The Raft excellent directions in the dark all added to the adventure.

All in all, it was just what we needed to log out of for a few days. A very special place indeed. We enjoyed a restful peaceful stay surrounded by wildlife. An excellent place to have some downtime. Shame about the weather but we maxed out the hot tub and wood burner instead.

Our stay was truly splendid, we have had a wonderful time. Already re-booked for The Raft is such a peaceful place to live for a few days, wonderful. Absolutely perfect stay at the raft, it was a 65 th birthday present to my partner. We had the most relaxing time, the lake is totally private, seperate from the rest of the farm by a big gate.

No WiFi but you get signal and there is a car charger point to charge phones, we took a mini speaker for music but the enjoyment is the quietness of the lake. We loved our stay on the raft. We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub with our umbrella and listening to the rain from the cosiness of our cabin.

We loved that we were so secluded and that our only neighbours were the ducks, swans, moorhens and heron. We also enjoyed a sea wall walk to a nearby pub for fish and chips during our stay. I recommend The Jolly Sailor! It was an amazing few days. It felt like a treasure hunt picking up the wheelbarrow with keys and instructions when we arrived, which lasted the whole stay. The raft access was great fun and the kids loved it too and helped to load it up with our luggage.

We saw loads of wildlife and the murmuration of starlings was a wonderful bonus. We came away feeling like we had been on a remote retreat even though it was Only 45 mins from homr.

We had a very relaxing stay on the raft. The check in process was so easy - keys were left for us for very clear instructions for getting to the raft. The hosts have really thought of everything; it is basic, but you have everything you need for a comfortable stay. We had a really lovely time and enjoyed the peace and quiet.

The bbq and stove were easy to use and hosts helped over the phone when we were unsure. Scenery beautiful. Very private. We had such an amazing stay at The Raft! Cannot wait to go back already. So unique and the perfect spot to unwind. We really enjoyed watching the wildlife, cooking outside and rowing on the lake. Everything has been thought of and the outdoor shower is just fab too! Fabulous place, thank you for sharing it with us.

We had an easy going welcome took a wheelbarrow with our backpacks through the lovely lakes and paths of the farm. Stopped on the way to chop some wood for the wood fire heated tube. And relaxed on the raft the tranquil lake with geese, ducks, storks and fish. We were surprised with the gift basket and enjoy the local goods of the east of Essex.

We had the most amazing relaxing stay on the raft. On the way were beautiful lakes and it was all kept very nicely. When we first saw the raft we felt quite excited, we loaded up onto the platform which we had to pull ourselves to get across. We saw fish in the lake and there were ducks and a swan with 7 cygnets. We had a look round and to my surprise the toilet and shower was al fresco! We had a very relaxing day after doing very little.

My husband lit the fire for the hot tub, we'd been advised that it needed nearly 4 hours to heat but he done it in 3 and it was a bit too hot to get in, but after adding a bit of cold it was lovely! In the evening we booked in to Rubino's Kitchen for an evening meal which was amazing. Lovely place to eat. The Raft was amazing. We had a lovely time at the raft despite a rainy start. Very tranquil and we liked being left to our own devices. Never seen it experienced a location like it before, the tranquility and peace on the raft is just outstanding!

We will be back! A wonderful and unique experience in a peaceful setting with only the wildlife making noises. Using the rope-pulled landing raft, we got our kit onto the main raft and soon made friends with a swan and his cob, with cygnets in tow.

The hot tub was a short row away in the dinghy provided a relaxing end to the evening you can walk there but what's the fun in that? The welcome pack contained wine essential , cheese and various chutneys, biscuits etc.

We would recommend this to anyone who is fed up with conventional weekend breaks. We had a fantastic time and absolutely loved the raft. It was an amazing experience and created lots of special memories. We loved the how relaxing it was, watching and listening to the birds. One of the best holidays we have ever had. After 1. So relaxing, the owner did everything to help you, fantastic. My girlfriend and I stayed at The Raft and it was an amazing experience.

Fortunately we caught a beautiful sunny weekend which made the activities of cooking outside, fishing, and sitting on the deck even more enjoyable. We highly recommend this unique experience.

We had a lovely time even though the weather was extremely windy. In fact this made it more cosy. It was a challenge to keep the gas stove alight as the wind kept blowing it out - same with the shower. Looking out onto the lake was so relaxing and peaceful. So great to be close to nature. It was lovely to look at the stars through skylight above the bed. We would love to go again in calmer weather so we can be outside more next time.

The Raft is lovely and the owners have thought of everything from binoculars to telescope, would definitely recommend. Stayed 4 nights and enjoyed every minute even when it rained. The wildlife was fabulous, kingfisher, heron and swans. The outdoor shower was hot and had a fantastic view.

The most amazing experience! The view was beautiful, the time to be with nature and away from peoples and technology, is something everyone needs once in a while.

Reusing the skills of making a fire, rowing a boat and navigating without a map was mind blowing! I not had a chance to read so many pages of my book in ages. It was incredibly secluded and a breath of fresh air to know that no one else would be coming to see us, other than the ducks, herons, swans and terns. The Raft itself was beautifully furnished and really comfortable, the hamper we ordered was delicious and we had a lovely wander into the local town, not to mention some great rows around the lake and a well earned soak in the wood fired hot tub.

Overall it was an incredibly relaxing and really special stay. We really hope to come back one day! The raft spec is as good as we could have hoped.

The management is mildly haphazard, but this does not detract from the experience. The Raft exceeded all expectation. We were celebrating my 40th, our 6 year anniversary and were also 7 months pregnant! We fired up the hot tub and kept it going all weekend, we hadn't expected such a powerful hot shower and excellent facilities.

A wonderful lot of treats awaited us, scones, wine, smoked cheese, even a little tin of Maldon salt. The weather was perfect, we visited nearby Rubino Kitchen for Sunday lunch which was small and perfectly formed, other than that we could have stayed on the water the whole weekend watching the birdlife which provided much entertainment from the swan with attitude to the visiting mallard ducks. We had a wonderful, relaxing honeymoon break on the raft.

The whole experience was good fun and just what we needed after a busy few weeks. We had a fantastic few days at the Raft. The Raft lived up to our excitement and we had no problems at all. Fabulous stay on the raft The stay there was fantastic, Beautiful place, really peaceful and tranquil. Just brilliant - will definitely return. I booked The Raft for myself and my boyfriend for his birthday - he specifically wanted a log cabin tick with a view of a lake tick with a hot tub tick.

Our expectations were completely exceeded. The only thing missing really was an oven, but the gas stove and the BBQ meant that you could still be relative creative in your cooking if you wanted to be. All the home comforts were there, including a lovely welcome hamper on arrival.

The location was also incredible - we sat on the deck and watched the sun go down while we floated about on the lake, we fished, rowed, walked around the fishery, had a lovely lunch at the cafe on site and all completely undisturbed by anyone, aside from a family of swans. We felt completely isolated, which was such a treat.

My only minor niggle is that the hot tub took HOURS to warm up and was still pretty cold - such a great bonus to have a hot tub, but we didn't get the use out of it we thought we might. The Raft was a perfect peaceful retreat from everyday life. Sitting on the lake in the beautifully light and well appointed chalet, and sunbathing on the deck even in September we felt like the only two people in the world!

I took my partner for a two night stay on the raft as a late birthday present along with our fourteen year old daughter. He was surprised and delighted by everything about it. We especially loved the seclusion of the raft, the wildlife, the outdoor shower and of course the hot tub despite the hard work to get it hot enough!

We spent lots of time reading, relaxing and bird watching. The beds were comfortable. The outdoor kitchen was well equipped. We loved everything about our stay on the raft. We were very lucky with warm sunny weather but I imagine the raft is just as lovely with a bit of rain.

Cooler weather would have given us an opportunity to use the wood burner. We had to pry the fourteen year old out of the hammock to leave at the end. What a wonderful place! We had a lovely relaxing stay. What a great location and the perfect blend of luxury and camping. It was perfection! We had total privacy and a much higher level of luxury than I'd imagined.

Exactly what we needed and everyone is asking 'where is this magical place'. We had the most wonderful time. It was truly idyllic. Even showering outside in October was fun!

We watched a resident Heron fishing and a kingfisher aswell. We cooked outside, played scrabble, hid inside whilst a swan pecked at the windows, lay in the sun on the fat boys, had a feast on food from the deli.

My husband loved messing about on the boat. The raft and its location are idyllic. Lovely scenery, the pond really did feel like a hidden oasis away from the rush and roar of the crowds. Cooking outdoors was fun, especially whilst watching the Herons and Kingfisher fish.

We were also stalked by a swan which, was amusing and a little surreal, we think it was my white fluffy housecoat that attracted him. The raft had everything we could possibly have needed and the smoked salmon from the deli was delicious with the wine and cheese that the owners left us as a welcome treat.

My partner thoroughly enjoyed his birthday treat and we both returned relaxed and ready for the week ahead. We had a lovely two night stay on the raft in late September. I was worried it wouldn't live up to the website, but it really was perfect. From cooking in the outdoor kitchen, to watching the birds from the hot tub, to sunset on the deck, we had so many moments that we'll remember all our lives.

Had a fantastic couple of days here. At one with nature and the tranquility on the lake was wonderful. The stunning sunsets, swans gliding onto the water and kingfishers glinting in the sunlight were breathtaking.

A total 'switch-off' experience and some new skills realised like rowing and wood-chopping! We stayed at the Raft for 2 nights. It was even more stunning and unusual than we had expected. We come from London and being able to have the seclusion that the raft offers was amazing! The weather was brilliant and we spent our days eating, drinking, sunbathing, rowing our little boat around the lake and chopping wood for our fabulous private hot tub!

We were so sad to leave. It was our 32nd wedding anniversary. What a find. We have an amazing long weekend at the Raft and felt completely relaxed when we left. We found plenty to do - paddling in the lake, making fires for the hot tub and wandering around exploring the lakes. It was the perfect get away from it all weekend. The raft is one of the most amazing 4 night breaks I have ever had.

Sam was really helpful and friendly when we arrived and a nice welcome basket awaited us on Raft. With it's secluded location it is the ideal place for a real rest. The wildlife is wonderful with lots of different water birds to watch, including herons and swans. The murmurations of the starlings at sunset were our favorites as I have never seen so many in one place.

If you want to do a little fishing the lake if full of fish. The Raft itself is lovely and comfortable especially the bed we slept better than we had for years. Everything you need is provided including books and games but we preferred to watch the wildlife. Great cooking outside on the BBQ or the little restaurant at the farm is lovely for a treat.

The shower is lovely and hot, although it seems strange at first to be looking over the lake when use it. Advise to use mosquito repellent as some evenings there are quite a few around. I can't wait to go back next year. The journey down was horrendous due to traffic in London. Once we arrived we totally switched off. The cabin was homely and comfortable and utensils were easy to find. The wildlife was amazing as saw my first Monkjack plus swan came onto the decking and tapped at the door which made my day plus made some great photos which are now on my Facebook.

The 4 days and 3 night stay was a suitable time to enjoy the tranquil surroundings. We have never felt so relaxed on holiday before which is purely down to the venue and its location and being at one with nature. It is a holiday to remember for all the right reasons.

Absolutely loved. It was just as tranquil and relaxing as we were hoping. We couldn't believe that we were only 40 mins out of London: it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere.

Peaceful, tranquil. Perfect getaway. The most romantic place I have ever stayed. We loved every moment. Our favourite part? All of it. The outdoor kitchen, the fishing, the duck that had made its best on the veranda.

It all had a magical feel. Swaying, gently with the wind this "raft" was perfectly balanced in its form and function. No TV, no wifi. We felt truly at ease. Our host, Sam, was helpful and the welcome gift was perfect. We loved it and cannot wait to return. We had an amazing weekend for my husbands surprise 50th birthday weekend away! He had no idea where he was going until a couple of days before but described it as 'the perfect choice'!

We enjoyed all the raft had to offer and spent most of the time pottering about on the water, fishing, lighting fires for hot tub or marshmallow roasting! Thoroughly enjoyed The Raft at Chigborough. It is set in the prettiest surroundings with amazing nature to sit back and watch, be it the swans, ducks, herons, birds or fish.

It was great fun using the pulley raft to access the home in the middle of the lake, making it feel like a bit of an adventure at the same time as a relaxing break. I loved the outdoor lifestyle with cooking on the veranda and showering with a view of the lake and no worries of people wandering past as it was completely secluded. The row boat was a lovely extra touch and it was great fun to row about on the lake and dock at one of the mini docking stations to enjoy a drink and listen to music whilst enjoying the sun.

Perfect place for a total relaxed switch off. Great if you're not keen on camping but still like the outdoor space. The outdoor kitchen, bathroom and toilet really force you to use the outdoor space which is great for the mind and get you out of your comfort zone.

The views were beautiful, and I was really surprised by the amount of wildlife that's surrounded us. We watched the sun go down one Eve and couldn't move because it was so beautiful. We really enjoyed chopping wood and starting the wood stove in the evening.

Don't bother taking any of your own toiletries as that's all provided. There is no plug socket so don't bring a hairdryer. There is a usb charger which came in very useful for charging phones. I booked this for my husband for our 10th Wedding Anniversary as a surprise, knowing that he loves the outdoors I thought this could be perfect for him and right up his street.

I lived without a TV. It was an idyllic location. Peaceful, private and totally relaxing Simply perfect for escaping life's daily demands. Everything we could have wished for and more. Excellent provisions and well equipped.

I can genuinely say our holiday here was one of the nicest breaks we've ever been on. We stayed for two nights and regret not staying for more. The journey to the Raft itself followed an isolated trail down fields and fishing lakes using the wheelbarrow we were provided for our kit. Getting to the cabin using a raft across the lake was a novel experience.

When we got there, we snaffled the scones provided in our welcome kit in minutes before exploring. We spent the next two nights playing board games, rowing, fishing and alternating between eating on the deck and drinking in the incredibly charming decor of the Raft itself. We were sad to wave goodbye this morning to Carl, the resident tamed Swan outside. Absolutely fantastic and will be back next year. The place was a dream. Absolutely gorgeous place!

So fun and quirky to stay in. We were very blessed with great weather and loved seeing all the wild life around us. I would recommend lighting the hot tub straight away as it only got warm on day two of being fired up! A perfect stay, highly recommended! Amazing stay. Such a beautiful location. The whether was brilliant whilst we stayed so this really made our stay. Hot tub is great fun, although it needs to be lit several hours in advance to make sure it's hot enough - all part of the fun though!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on the Raft. From the moment we arrived the children could not wait to fish. The weather was lovely so that made it extra special, reading on the sunlounger or drinking wine whilst on the hammock, Bliss!!! A lovely and peaceful location where you can enjoy watching the wildlife. The partly exposed toilet and shower were a novelty too. It was nice to relax and play some games in the evening , all provided for.

We enjoyed the tasty scones and the smoked cheese and wine that were waiting for us on arrival. All in all a very pleasant stay and we would love to go back. We had a fantastic girls weekend away at The Raft. The house is completely private, was comfortable and had everything we needed. Cooking in the outdoor kitchen and showering in the partially outdoor shower added to the fun of glamping. Although the outdoor lights in the entertaining area were not working the first evening, as soon as we flagged it with the owners the issue was resolved within the hour.

Great experience, would definitely recommend! We had a lovely time in spite of the rain which quickly turned into sunshine. We rowed the boat, enjoyed the hot tub and struggled to saw logs - which made us laugh. When we arrived, we filled our wheelbarrow and made our way through the beautiful countryside to the Raft you are supplied with a map. The Raft is very private and can only be seen once you reach it.

We used the ferry platform to get across and you soon get used to this. Our boys went out in the rowing boat as soon as we got there and my husband went straight round to the hot tub to light the fire and get it ready for the evening. Hot tub took about 5 hours to heat up and we all went in that night with our lantern lighting the way.

It was great fun cooking outside, fry ups have never tasted so good. Shower and toilet are partly exposed to the elements but again this is part of the fun of glamping.

We were very lucky with weather, which allowed us to make the most f fishing and rowing round the lake. There is an abundance of wildlife which is entertainment in itself, even our boys enjoyed it and coped well without technology. The Raft is such a unique place to stay and we'd love to stay there again and would highly recommend it. After seeing the raft on a recent TV programme we booked a two night stay at the raft for my husbands birthday.

So glad we booked it was an amazing experience totally out of this world experience, making us totally relax and recharge.

Can't wait to return. We had the most amazing time at The Raft. The weather couldn't have been more perfect, with the sun shining throughout! We were blown away by the accommodation and loved how individual it was. We were out in the rowing boat within 10 minutes of being there, watching the world go by and variety of different birds.

Copping logs, fishing, barbecuing dinner, bird watching, hot tubbing, showering in the out doors were all part of a memorable couple of days. Will be recommending The Raft to all family and friends and would love to go back and stay there again!

It was the most bizarre fun peaceful and most enjoyable break we have ever had, and would do it again in a instant. It didn't matter that the weather wasn't hot. We laughed till our sides felt like they would split then found a perfect peace which was like a little piece of heaven in today's fast world we didn't need to talk or be in touch with the anyone just us and the serenity and simplity of life.

All the worry and troubles of our life disappeared we left their calm revitalised and feeling 10 years younger in fact very sad to leave. This is a memory which will last for ever. The raft was perfect - peaceful, private and beautifully designed with everything we needed for a romantic getaway.

Was amazing!!
