I see a lot of outboards in use we're at the Gulf now , so I assume that they are the best for saltwater? I see plenty of Yamaha jet skis as well. How do the Yamaha jet boats hold up with regards to maintenance, etc in salt water? I would be looking for a home on a canal with a boat lift.

Are the jets any more maintenance than other engine layouts? I was also wondering if getting a place on a freshwater river would help out, rather than lifting the boat out of a saltwater canal.

My guess is that you are more likely to find brackish water than fresh so you will still want to flush the engines. You will want a lift regardless of the type of water. As the boat sits in the water stuff starts to grow. The longer it sits the harder it is to clean off.

If you leave the boat sitting in salt water, all components mechanical as well as cosmetic will be eaten away by the salt. If you use it in salt water and religiously take the boat out of the water when done, give it a thorough cleaning, and completely flush the engines for minutes with either fresh water or fresh water with an additive Salt Away, Salt Terminator or the like you will not have a problem.

The key to using this boat in salt water is religiously cleaning the boat and a flushing the engines. I had an LS for many years which was used in salt water on occasion. When it sold at the ripe age of 12 years old, it was in near pristine condition, despite salt water usage. Many have opined that you do not need the salt fighter additive, but there is a chemical component to these additives that lays down and builds up a protective coating over time, so why not?

To flush the engines I add dish soap to the flush hose, all I run in is salt water, also spray a lot of silicon or spray furniture polish on the engine etc to keep the water from damaging it.

When you spray the silicon over the engine, I assume you spray the whole area and not worry about whatever will burn off. Odd, our boat came from the factory with saltwater anodes magnesium as I recall. NOW with Continental aluminum trailer.

Keep in mind the shape isn't really a big deal, you can add any shape anode even to just one section of the pump that is convenient.
