In July , he won a French vessel somewhere off the coast of Newfoundland and named it Royal Fortune. As expected, he was too lazy to think of other names, since he used the same name for every ship that he captured. However, the fact that he neither sold nor burned this certain ship made it stand out from the others. He commanded his crew of men to mount the ship with 42 cannons, making it more than ready to fight against any Royal Navy ship that was around during that time.

The pirates were reportedly anchored and celebrating off the coast of Cape Lopez when the fight suddenly broke out. Captain Roberts was seen as the first to fall during the battle. He died immediately after getting hit by a cannon.

Pirate captain Henry Every is depicted on shore while his ship, the Fancy, engages an unidentified vessel. The Fancy was a former privateer commissioned by the King of Spain. This gun vessel was one of the most formidable ships during the golden age of piracy, and was renowned for its speed. It boarded a crew of men led by Henry Avery, a successful privateer. However, in May , Avery and his crew plotted a mutiny and turned pirate.

They renamed the ship Fancy, and used it to plunder the trading ships that sailed across the Indian Ocean. One of their most rewarding victories occurred in July , when they successful overpowered the Ganj-i-Sawai, a gun treasure ship that belonged to the Grand Mogul of India.

It later became one of the most lucrative scores ever made by a pirate. The Fancy sailed to the Caribbean, where they made the most out of their treasures before the ship and its crew mysteriously disappeared.

The ship boarded a man crew under the command of Captain Charles Russel and his co-captain George Lowther. They set sail from London down the Thames River in the year When they arrived, they were met by a number of unfavorable conditions, which resulted in a division between the crew and their captain, who appeared to be more concerned with the slave shipment than the condition of the people who boarded the ship.

Lowther soon had a falling out with the captain and was able to convince the unhappy crew together with the angry soldiers aboard to join him in mutiny. After being voted as their new captain, they marooned Russel and his supporters, taking the Gambia Castle. They later renamed the ship Happy Delivery and set out to a life of piracy. Lowther was forced to abandon the Happy Delivery after getting attacked by native Amerindians in the year The Golden Hind is one of the most famous ships in sailing history.

It was captained by Sir Francis Drake, a well-known privateer famous for being the first Englishman to successfully circumnavigate the world. This masterpiece was packed with 18 cannons, and was first introduced as the Pelican until Drake renamed it the Golden Hind. In the year , Drake was commissioned by Queen Elizabeth of England to lead an expedition around the world.

He then left Plymouth with a fleet comprised of five ships and crew members. As the voyage continued, Drake and his crew were able to raid and plunder various trading ships in the Pacific. Finally, on September 26, , after two years, 10 months, and 18 days of voyage, the lone ship was able to return to Plymouth, along with Drake and his man crew.

The Rising Sun was a gun pirate ship that boarded a crew of men under the command of Captain Christopher referred to in some books as William Moody. Moody had previously sailed under the command of Black Bart before taking on his own crew. In , the Rising Sun sailed alongside an 8-gun brigantine, led by another pirate known as Captain Frowd, and a sloop carrying the same number of guns. Christophers and Santa Croix, where they burned and destroyed the ships that they successfully plundered.

Because of this, Hamilton had to demand stronger naval ships from England, including a gun warship in an attempt to protect said territory from the terror of Captain Moody and the Rising Sun.

The ship, led by Booth, sailed to Zanzibar along with a crew of more than men. However, in the latter part of the same year, Captain Booth was killed in a battle and quickly succeeded by Bowen. Another triumph happened in November , when they captured a British ship and then turned around and successfully sold it off.

Most of the pirates were able to survive, but they lost most of the treasures they had kept inside their flagship. Aside from being educated, he was also a retired Major who owned a three-mile plantation east of Bridgetown, Barbados. For some reason, he secretly bought a sloop and outfitted it with ten-guns, and unlike most pirates he actually used his own money to do so.

He called his sloop Pirate 17 Sailing Boat Reddit Revenge. Soon, he hired a crew comprised of 70 men and set out to piracy. Despite his inexperience, he successfully plundered several ships off the coasts of Virginia and South Carolina. At the moment she is afloat in a "marina" on the Norfolk Broads.

As I live in Buckinghamshire my first requirement is to move it closer to home and so allow me time to work on it over the next few weeks. My first problem is that the boat did not come with a trailer and I will need one soon to enable me to move it. The boat is the drop keel version and so with the keel up has a stub of about 50cm or so protruding below the bottom of the hull and so I would imagine this needs a fairly specalised trailor.

If anyone knows of a second hand one for sale, or even can suggest the best places to look, I will be very gratefull indeed. Secondly, I have inspected the boat whilst in the water and to my inexperienced eyes she looks sound and seems to be quite dry inside. No obvious signs of rot or structural weakness that I can see. I am sure that the hull will need a good pressure clean, but would it be sufficient then to just apply a coat of antifoul or should I be thinking of stripping it back to original GRP.

To enable me to work on the boat I will need a cheap and safe place to leave the boat, either on a temporary or long term basis and preferably with water and electricity available. I do not have space at home, so any suggestions about where I can do the work required would be appreciated - preferably within an hour or so of High Wycombe. Any other advice or comments about the Pirate 17 would be appreciated.

Thanks Chris. Our first proper sailing boat after a dinghy was a Ridgeway Pirate 20 years ago, I think Pegasus Boats took over from Ridgeway, or Ridgeway owned Pegasus Boats We only had the boat a year and a half but we sailed the broads, lakes in the lake district and kept it on bala and we loved it. Ours was also a drop keel plus twin bilge keels and it sailed very well as 4ft 6 ins draft is a good draft for a 17foot boat.

We often used to give the club Flying Fifteen a run for their money, and they were racing. I was surprised how well it trailed and it never gave me any concern in thst respect. I have scraped off antifoul back to gelcoat on a couple of boats but would never do it again. Very time consuming and with very limited benefits unless there is a hull problem to resolve, just rub it down wet to get off any loose stuff, wash with fresh water and antifoul and get out there sailing.

A word of warning; although the drop keel is very heavy and substantial it is cast iron and quite brittle. I took a lump out of mine when refitting the keel after fitting a new pivot bolt. For an old boat the interior having internal roof mouldings was ahead of its time and as I recall very tidy inside. A proper small yacht with potential for lots of fun and good experiences I wish you well with it.

Stemar Well-known member. EBay's always worth a look - For Example. Loot may be as well. Get someone who's seen your boat and knows trailers to go with you to buy!

Mine too. A farmer might be glad of a bit of rent for a barn, and there are quite a few round there. Good luck! Joined 6 Sep Messages 1, Lakesailor New member. I do still have it. I also own a Seahawk 17 which is the same hull as the Pirate. I have the trailer for that which is obviously not for sale.

My point is that I could supply dimensions to convert the other trailer to carry the Pirate. Joined 21 Dec Messages Location Sussex-by-the-sea.
