50 Boat ramp ideas | boat, ramp, boat lift

When it comes meanning trailers for Boston Whaler boats, there is a big schism in the conventional wisdom. Some rollef owners prefer a trailer with keel guild that support the guild weight of the boat and use small bunks only to provide stability, while another group uses trailers with full bunks and build your own boat roller ramp meaning rollers.

Each group is certain they have the best approach. I have been studying this schism between the two schools of thought on trailers, and I believe I know what is behind it. Styles of trailers are essentially divided into two camps: rollers or no roller. The roller group is further divided into to factions: keel rollers with bunks or floppy roller designs. As Boston Whaler boat owners we definitely do not want the all floppy roller type trailer, so we will omit build your own boat roller ramp meaning type from this discussion.

We'll stick with a division between two styles of trailers: all bunk or keel roller with bunk. The fundamental difference between these designs is that in an all bunk trailer there is nothing to reduce the friction of movement of the boat on the bunks. The weight of the boat bears on carpeted bunks and, lacking the lubrication of water and the upward force of buoyancy, movement of the boat fore and aft on the bunks is in practice impossible.

Extreme forces would need to be build your own boat roller ramp meaning to move the boat forward with the winch strap. Once the boat is hard on the bunks it is not moving. In contrast, the keel roller trailer meaaning the majority of the boat weight on a series of rollers which, while far from frictionless, reduce the effort needed to move the boat forward or aft on the trailer to a small buipd of that of the bunk trailer.

If placed on an incline the boat can be rolled off the trailer, especially when a small amount build your own boat roller ramp meaning upward force from a buoyant stern is added. Even when the boat is hard and dry on the rollers, it can still be moved by the winch strap. For more information on trailer rigging, see the companion article to this one which concentrates on the proper trailer set up.

So that there is no confusion of terms, "power loading" refers to the practice of using the boat's own engine to propel it forward and build your own boat roller ramp meaning onto the trailer, as opposed to manual loading by using a winch and cable to pull the boat forward and onto the trailer. The preference in trailer design is influenced by the type of ramps that will be used.

There really are also two schools of thought on ramp facilities, so first I need to describe the two types of ramps. I'll call them the "Michigan" Ramp and the "Kentucky" Ramp, after locations where I have typically seen each type of ramp in use.

And their design is really influenced rokler the water that they access. Once you understand the difference in ramp facilities, you will see certain types of trailers are more suitable for certain types of ramps, and this will be the underlying cause of the big schism in preferences for trailer designs.

A review of these two types of trailer boat launching facilities follows. Rollee "Michigan" Ramp is a launch facility that has a ramp with a service dock that extends into the water right at the launch point.

You rollfr or recover your boat alongside the dock. The dock is long enough so that when the boat comes off the trailer there is still room on the dock for the boat to lie alongside the dock. The slope of the bottom in the vicinity of a "Michigan" Ramp is likely to be the same as the ramp.

The ramp is usually just a slab of concrete set on the natural bottom of the lake. The slope is often rather gentle, typically not more than about ten degrees of decline into the water. The water level of the body of water for a "Michigan" Ramp is generally stable and has no diurnal variations.

It meanin change from rsmp to year, but it does not fluctuate on a daily basis, nor does it change greatly from spring to buil to fall. The lake bottom is usually sand or loose gravel, which can be easily displaced by prop wash. For these reasons the length of the ramp is relatively short, and docks can be supported by pilings yoyr the bottom as opposed to floating docks.

The launching riller at the "Michigan" Ramp is to back the boat into the water on the trailer with no one aboard. Using gravity and a manual pull the boat is manuevered sternward and off the trailer, and made fast to the dock. The trailer is then driven to a parking area, the crew returns to the dock, and the boat departs the dock. Meanihg ramp is clear for the next user. Recovery is the reverse. The boat approaches the dock and is temporarily made fast.

The crew fetches the trailer. The boat is loaded onto the trailer manually, without power loading. The trailer then clears the boxt area. Notice that it is possible to launch and recover single-handed. One person can handle all the launch and recovery chores using the "Michigan" Ramp style of operation.

The only point in the process that is a bit hard to handle occurs just as the boat is loading or unloading from the trailer. If strong winds are present it is much easier to accomplish if an assistant can hold the boat lines and help keep it aligned to the dock during the time when it is partially on or off the trailer.

A second person on the crew can be helpful, but they're not mandatory. At almost every "Michigan" Ramp, operators of the ramp facility have large signs build your own boat roller ramp meaning place advising that power loading is prohibited. This restriction is in place because of concerns for the long term preservation of the ramp. Because the "Michigan" Ramp tends to enter water with yuor gentle bottom slope, if boats were to power load the prop wash would displace the sand and gravel and build it into a yout a few feet behind the end of the ramp.

Eventually a rather significant shoal yoru be created by meanig power loading. The shoal then becomes a build your own boat roller ramp meaning for boats near the ramp area, where the sudden reduction in depth can mean a dinged propeller to the fellow without local knowledge of this artificial reef. Power loading can also tend to create a deep pit right at the end of the ramp.

This is a problem for ramp users if their trailer wheels back beyond the end of the bulid ramp and into this pit and for maintainers of the ramp as the end of the ramp slab begins to be build your own boat roller ramp meaning and may not be sufficiently supported. For these reasons, a "Michigan" Ramp generally prohibits power loading and warns of fines.

In order to get the boat on the trailer without using its engine, the operator must winch it to the bow stop using the "armstrong" method. This is usually not too hard because the slope of the ramp is fairly gentle.

The gentle slope of the ramp also means that when the trailer is backed-in to the point where the trailer winch post is just at the water's edge, the far end of the trailer is not so deep that the stern build your own boat roller ramp meaning the boat is immersed to the point of floating free although this varies greatly from ramp to ramp.

The "Kentucky" Ramp is a launch meqning where the ramp build your own boat roller ramp meaning rollfr the water by buils, with no dock at hand. There may or may not be an adjacent service dock. Roler there is a dock, it is not at the ramp, and it is provided more to facilitate temporary docking and build your own boat roller ramp meaning of passengers than as part of the launch or recovery process.

If there is no dock, getting on or off the boat while in the water is buipd by putting the bow ashore and scrambling over the stem. The water in the area of the ramp is often quite deep, with the bottom sloping rapidly down to depths of eight feet or.

This may mean that at the end of the paved ramp the natural depth of the water is greater than the ramp, so the ramp surface is built up on a foundation that extends up from the natural lake. The water level at the ramp area of a "Kentucky" Ramp is often subject to seasonal variations over a considerable range.

The water levels may be controlled by downstream dams, or subject to spring flooding. The water may also be tidal, and vary over a considerable range, requiring a very long ramp to accommodate all the variations.

The wide variation in water level is one reason for not having a dock. The ramp may have to extend quite a way into the water yohr periods of low levels, and a fixed dock that was built to be above the high water range would then be much too high to be of meanihg use.

Problems like this are one reason the dock is not included at launching sites with extreme water level fluctuations. The launching technique at the "Kentucky" Ramp is to back the boat into the water on the trailer until the engine is over water with sufficient depth to lower the engine.

The engine is build your own boat roller ramp meaning started and an operator backs the boat off the trailer using the engine reverse thrust. The trailer is then driven to a parking area, and the ramp is clear rakp the next user. Recovery at the "Kentucky" Ramp is the reverse. The boat loiters near the ramp while the trailer is brought into position to load.

The operator drives the boat onto the trailer under power. The trailer is driven clear of the ramp. Notice that it is possible to launch and recover single-handed, but it is much more efficient at the "Kentucky" Ramp to have two people. A single hander has many disadvantages. He must back the boat into water, kwn climb into it without benefit of a dock alongside.

Rramp usually means walking rollre the trailer central beam and climbing over the bow. Then, he has to start the engine.

Then, he must go forward and release the bow strap. Then, he must back the boat off the trailer. Once the boat floats free he must find someplace to temporarily moor it while he returns to the ramp to get his trailer out of the way.

If two people are involved it goes much faster. One drives the trailer into the water while a second, already aboard, starts the engine and backs the boat off.

On recovery, one gets the trailer in rxmp while the second drives the boat right on. If the trailer is positioned properly, the boat will be driven to the bow stop, the bow strap quickly secured, and the trailer driven clear of the ramp. Done by a well-rehearsed team, a rap can be loaded or unloaded in 30 seconds at the ramp.

The "Kentucky" Ramp really demands yoir loading and unloading. Without a dock at the ramp, it is difficult or impossible to control a boat by lines while it floats near the trailer. An alternative might be to wade into the water, but this is often unattractive because meajing the depth, temperature, and clarity of the water, and the age, inclination, and temperament of the operator.

Power loading is not a concern for obat the ramp maintainers because often the paved ramp extends to build your own boat roller ramp meaning considerable depth of water, the bottom may be muddy and unlikely to be displaced as easily as sand or loose gravel, and there may already be a large drop off at the end of the paved ramp due gour being built up above the lake or river.

These, then, are the two general styles of ramp facilities. The "Michigan" Ramp has more facilities ranp maintain, as is has a rollet. But the "Michigan" Ramp also wastes some of its ramp area by having the dock present. In contrast, a "Kentucky" Ypur may be just a broad paved area entering the water, with no space meanng to docks at the ramp area.

In Paducah, Kentucky, we saw that the sloping and paved levee built to control Ohio River flooding was also used as a continuous boat ramp throughout the downtown area.

February is upon us and the warm muggy conditions have set in. The snapper fishing along Port Phillip Bay continues to provide local anglers with exciting action on a daily basis. However, Melbourne is surprising us with some quality catches from some unexpected species.

This month I want to acknowledge many of our local land-based battlers local Melbournians who put in countless hours from landbased locations trying to land that trophy-size fish. These are local anglers who have my utmost respect.

Last month saw some unbelievable land-based fish caught close to Melbourne around Docklands and Port Melbourne. Kadir Sahin, a big promoter of kids fishing and catch and release programs in Melbourne, has been putting in countless hours targeting yellowtail kingfish around Docklands near Etihad Stadium.

Kingies close to Melbourne have created a lot of hype in recent months and for good reason, as targeting these magnificent illusive fish requires patience and time to study the changing conditions with a small window of opportunity for success. It also requires consideration to select the right gear, which for Kadir has been his heavyduty Daiwa Saltiga range. Achieving success has required much experimenting with different baits and lures.

Initially, Kadir found that the kingies were quite. Rather than getting frustrated Kadir persisted going through live baits, swimbaits, fresh squid, soft plastic shads and hardbodies trying to crack the code.

Finally, after putting in the hours, Kadir landed a couple of ripping size kingfish on the same day. This was after some heavy rain with cloudy water conditions. This is perhaps the key difference in getting the kingfish more aggressive and confident to finally take baits and lures.

What makes these catches even more special is that Kadir was fishing with his boys, creating some memories that will last a lifetime. Another epic land-based fishing story this month belongs to Hakan Unen who managed to catch an monstersize mulloway from the Warmies in Newport.

Hakan had been putting in the hours and slowly managed to catch some pinkies. The decision to persist and fish through a stormy summer day full of rain and blustery winds paid dividends. A big mulloway over 1m in size smashed his pilchard. After a long battle a tricky task when fishing at the Warmies due to the rocks and snags he landed this silver monster with the help of his good mate Gurkan.

I get a sense of joy hearing about land-based anglers who have put in many hours and finally been rewarded with a. Targeting areas such as the Warmies, Yarra River, Maribyrnong River, Web Dock and West Gate over the years I have managed to land several large snapper and a few large gummy sharks, but that massive mulloway has eluded me.

Back in the bay, the snapper fishing is still going very strong. Many local anglers around Melbourne are reporting regular bag-out sessions on both bait and plastics around Port Phillip Bay. Lightly weighted or unweighted full silver whiting or pilchards on a double snelled hook have been working well, particularly after a couple of windy days. While large shad and curl-tail plastics continue to produce results.

Dean Yeoman recently booked in a fishing charter for him and his close mates. There are many great fishing charter operators around Melbourne who will be able to give you and your mates a great day on the water.

Russell House recently purchased a new boat and was incredibly keen to hit the local waters around Port Phillip Bay. Well done, Russell, hopefully that is the first of many successful future fishing. I rushed back to shore without hesitation, which was quite a challenge. Get outdoors, enjoy the sunshine and take advantage of some quality summers fishing Melbourne has to offer.

This summer I have ventured out on my kayak many times and have enjoyed catching a lot of flathead, pinkies, whiting, and the occasional gummy shark and snook while testing out the new rods and reels. Every now and again nature reminds us just how suddenly the weather conditions can change; one recent session became quite scary when the weather turned much sooner than predicted.

The calm waters quickly turned choppy thanks to sudden gusting winds followed by unexpected heavy rain and lightning strikes.

Fish Hunter The Stessco Fish Hunter Series offers a universal boat that is great for a serious days fishing or a casual day on the water with the family. For more information or to find your nearest Stessco dealer visit Hakan Unen with a trophy mulloway from the Warmies. With the predictions of a couple of warm months ahead, things are looking very nice indeed for the rest of the summer and beyond.

Snapper reports have been coming in thick and fast over the past month, after a bit of lull in the local action earlier in the season.

The presence of the charter boats is often a good indicator of numbers of fish in any area, and most of the major businesses have been operating from the wider marks out from Carrum for the past weeks. Great fish have been taken by anglers of all ages, including plenty of real solid specimens in the kg range. While bite windows and peak activity are still remaining concentrated in tighter periods of time, the longer. The Frankston area has also been very productive for snapper anglers over the past month as well, both out wider in m, and also in closer during more inclement weather, as the fish move in closer to the reefs to feed.

Afternoon bite times have been the best, and some great bags of fish have been landed. The Shultz boys have been dominating the area of late, with some great bags of fish. The greater Mornington area out wide has probably been the most consistent producer of snapper for the majority of anglers over the past month, and while the average size of the fish is a little smaller than some of those being caught in other.

Daniel from TW Cranbourne with 5kg of Mornington red. Recently, there have been some massive schools of salmon around the Mornington area, and plenty of anglers have been cashing in collecting baits, and having some fun in the process. Most fish have been in the kg. Jason Schultz with a recent bag of quality snapper taken out from Frankston in 17m.

Recently, Mornington wide is typically a great area to cash in as the snapper tend to group up in this area to feed, before they head south. Expect the extensive mud bank areas out from Mount Martha and Safety Beach to be good in the coming months as well as this migratory pattern takes hold. Unsurprisingly, some of the charter boats have also been operating from this area lately as well. The most productive baits have been fresh squid, silver whiting, and the good old pilchard is still the number one choice of most anglers.

More anglers this season are also having success using fresh salmon as well, and. Anglers fishing lighter line and with the stealth of a drifting boat, or even an electric motor have been doing best, especially fishing unweighted plastics, and. Local whiting reports have been fairly scarce so far, but expect this to change over the coming months, as they move further north in the bay, and along the eastern reefs.

Rosebud and south has been the best so far. Squid numbers are also starting to really thicken up along our local reefs expect this to improve further in the coming months. Devil Bend Reservoir has been producing some good trout and redfin, especially after the waterway has been opened up to kayaks. Some nice fish up to lb have been taken by anglers casting and slow trolling Tassie Devils in the lake basin.

There have also been plenty of EPs for anglers fishing amongst the weed beds with plastics and topwater lures from the bank. The Patto has taken a while to recover after recent storm waters resulted in a minor fish canal bream. Recent reports suggest that the fishery has rebounded well, with some nice bream being taken on bait and lures, and also some great EPs being taken at night by anglers fishing lures and plastics around the lights.

There has been plenty to write about this month, and I reckon next month will be even better. Hopefully the big boys with yellow tails show up in our local areas this season. The comparison rate is 8. Different amounts and terms will result in a different comparison rate. Australian Credit Licence Number With lots of great fishing options on offer as we roll into February it seems like the fishing should only improve. In saying that, the recent fishing has been excellent.

While there are lots of different species to chase right now, over the past weeks the main focus species has been the whiting with a lot of anglers reporting that, after putting in a bit of effort to find them, there have been great numbers of bigger sized fish on offer. Several of the local anglers that fish out of Mordialloc Creek reported bags of a dozen or so fish in the cm size.

The fishing should only get better on species like the whiting, salmon and garfish. While on the kingfish front there were a few sneaky reports of kingfish in the area during January, a pile of fish moved into the rip and lower parts of the bay.

This month should see a few of these fish turn up, especially those kg models that have been around in good numbers. During some of the bigger winds we saw in January the pier had a few anglers report that they got into some good pinkie fishing of an evening.

The big news over the past weeks has been anglers getting into good numbers of whiting by fishing the rough ground on the north side of the pier late in the evening and into the night.

And while most of the whiting are solid school fish in the cm size, there are enough bigger ones around the 40cm mark to keep it interesting. The best baits have been pipis and mussels fished on a paternoster rig and a light rod. Check out this thumping whiting caught by Natalie Powell fishing out of Western Port. Now is definitely the time to be chasing these big whiting which seem to be around in good numbers.

Mentone has been fishing well with some of the better fishing happening on the lighter reef areas. This has also seen less pinkies than up on the harder reef areas. In these areas the best. T E info asbfeo.

As for the size of the fish, most people are reporting whiting in the cm size, but there are a few patches of fish that have some 40cm models among them. Keep your eyes peeled this month for schools of salmon that have been turning up over the past weeks. For the land-based anglers there have also been pinkies and the odd whiting taken off the front of the Half Moon Bay car park at night, while the pier itself has seen some good catches of whiting for anglers who fish late at night and cast baits out towards the Cerberus.

Try the Anonyma Shoal, as for whatever reason February seems to produce some stonker whiting in this part. In this spot I always find that fresh mussels are the best bait. Back in closer to shore the Yorkies Reef system has been holding whiting and squid in good numbers. Further along towards Sandringham there are good land-based fishing opportunities this month.

Anglers have a really good chance at decent numbers of whiting and pinkies while fishing the end of the breakwall and the rock groynes late in the afternoon and into the night. Out a little wider anglers fishing in their boats in the m areas up.

This month, however, by fishing out a little wider in the m areas there will be some solid pinkies on offer with the best results coming to anglers who fish at dawn and dusk with larger baits of pilchards and squid strips.

For that reason a lot of anglers who are doing well on the fish in this area tend to fish in the dark or during the first and last light periods when there is less activity on the water, allowing the fish to feed in the shallower water.

For something different get in behind the breakwall in a kayak or small boat to cast plastics at the moored boat hulls for some big bream and trevally, or head out the front in search of pinkies and whiting on the abundant cunjevoi beds that run all the way along towards Station Pier in the m areas. Use a bit of berley and baits of mussel and pipi for the whiting. Squid strips and pilchard tails work for the pinkies and, as always, a bit of berley will help to get the bite going.

Over the past weeks the main focus species has been the whiting with a lot of anglers reporting that, after putting in a bit of effort to find them, there have been great numbers of bigger sized fish on offer. The start to summer has been madness down on the Mornington Peninsula, but the fishing has been sensational. It will continue to fish well this month and hopefully into March.

ROSEBUD The pier has seen a lot of action over the past couple of weeks with plenty of squid being caught late into the evening and after dark. Small 2. Use maggots or slithers of pilchard on a sabiki rig. Out the front along Rosebud Reef and down towards Tootgarook plenty of boats are getting into some nice pinkies on.

Half pilchards and squid strips are favoured baits. If you. A little closer in there are plenty of good weed beds that are still holding great numbers of squid despite the amount of boat traffic. RYE Rye Pier has been packed at night and is producing some great fishing. Flathead are a popular target species this year too for anglers fishing off the end of the pier.

The fishing around White Cliffs has been reasonable with a few really good flathead taken on soft plastics drifting in shallower while the whiting have been firing up on the outgoing tide. Pipis and squid strips are the go, on their own or in a cocktail. Out the back of the Fort has been good for drifting for a number of species. Flathead and salmon are in good numbers at the moment and a few good gummy sharks are being taken on a regular basis.

Out the front of the wall is a great area to fish lures and soft plastics for flatties, pinkies and salmon. Sorrento is ridiculously busy at the moment with all the kingfish action. Jigging for kingfish seems to be the most popular method by far. Use g knife jigs depending on the tides and how much flow there is. If you want to bait fish for them, towing around a live squid or baitfish such as yakkas or slimies will do the trick.

Some anglers even use a paternoster with a single hook and strip bait on it for good results. Just a precaution to anyone fishing the Rip it is a very dangerous place. Make sure you follow the Maritime Safety laws at all times, look out for others and most importantly pay attention to the marked marine zones and changing sea conditions.

For any other questions or enquiries you can pop down to the Compleat Angler in Rosebud for more information. Chad Nipper put in a few hours at high tide and was rewarded with a quality red for this time of year.

The humble pilchard was the game changer. Young Jack Abrehart headed out from Tooradin recently and recorded his firstever snapper. Working the channel edges and sounding around the deeper water just outside the Tooradin Channel is a great way to pick up a few snapper as they school up in the deep water during the heat of the day.

Well done, Jack! Mark Keaveny and Gerry Morsman zipped out from Hastings after work. The sounder showed the way and after wading through a heap of pinkies the boys left a couple of nice 3kg models. Pilchard and Californian squid coupled with an outgoing tide delivered the best results. The fish seem to be constantly on. Andrew Ketelaar, who is an absolute jet when it comes to fishing Western Port, has been finding some really nice whiting in the Tooradin Channel.

The bigger fish have been nudging 45cm, so nice hearty baits like big pipis and mussels or pilchard fillets are a great option. The deeper drop-offs around Crawfish Rock have been producing some massive whiting over the last couple. By lobbing a nice fillet of fresh salmon or trevally into the deeper water Sam has been picking up the odd really nice gummy. For those after some fresh calamari for whiting bait the Tyabb Bank still has a really nice sprinkling of calamari all over it.

Hux Fysh has the squid well and truly sorted and has been getting stuck into some exceptional models lately. White squid jigs in size 3. Tommo Fitzpatrick was up in the Bouchier Channel on a recent outing and ended up tangling with a cracker little bronzy that took a liking to a nice fresh squid head.

Great effort, Tommo! It certainly is a great sign to see this type of variety still around and I really think that the best whiting fishing is still to come!

Like always, keep those reports coming and good luck on your next fishing adventure. Ben Hoskin found some absolute beauties on a recent outing in 10m of water with the biggest fish measuring 47cm and multiple fish at 45cm!

Berley is an absolute must and at times, live Bass yabbies have been the difference between a feed of fresh whiting and a quick stop at the fish and chip shop on the way home! Sam Triplett has been making the most of the holiday period and spending a heap of time on the water, which is great to see.

Sam sat through a really slow slack tide period to be rewarded with the whiting going absolutely nuts when the tide changed and the water got moving again. Magnificent on the plate, whiting have been more than plentiful over the past few weeks and will continue on for the next few months.

During the high tides, whiting have been moving up on the banks to feed on the small crustaceans and molluscs they can scavenge. As the tide abates, whiting tend to move into deeper water where they can be found in anything from m. Although there are a lot of whiting on the banks, the average is around the 35cm mark, however, if you do move out into the deeper water, the average is around. Phil Spec displays the fruits of a good day out.

Photo courtesy of Shaun Furtiere. Pipis are number one in my book but they fall off easily in the current. Mussels, on the other hand, are a little bit firmer and stay on well.

If you have. Fishing the Somers and Balnarring areas certainly has its rewards. Photo courtesy of Justin Blythe. Fishing the hour up to and after the tide change we managed a great bag of whiting with the smallest going 39cm and the biggest at 48cm. Fish of this range are common in these deep-water areas and to catch them you just have to get your timing right.

In saying that, we were still fishing oz leads to hold bottom. Fishing the deep for. Matt Catterson took his son Taj out for a whiting session fishing out from Stony Point.

Taj was quick into them catching some solid whiting using a pipi and squid bait cocktail. One local charter operator has also been smashing the whiting recently with regular customer Phil Specs on board. Fishing the North Arm and using live bass yabbies for bait, they had no trouble catching a solid bag of whiting. In recent weeks, anglers have been concentrating heavily on the whiting and found them plentiful in the North Arm and right throughout the Port.

Occasionally when the whiting have been a little more challenging, moving into the Eastern Channel and around the Tankerton area has been worthy. Of course, in these shallower areas, berley has been a must to get them going. Be careful when berleying though salmon and silver trevally have been moving in. Though they are fun to catch on light tackle, they can destroy your rigs; it pays to up your leader strength to at least 15lb fluorocarbon to withstand the battle and not be broken off.

The last thing you need if the whiting bite is hot is to spend the next ten minutes rigging up. Snapper season might not be over just yet and those anglers that are continuing to hunt them are doing quite well.

Snapper are still being caught in good numbers throughout the Port but are confined to a few areas. Doing this means fighting off law enforcement and would be more of a struggle, but there's less risk and allows your entire team to be more equipped for a heist that's ultimately going to be loud.

After the vault is open and the cage is dropped off, be sure to have the cage set up and one bag of loot ready. The sooner you trigger the plane, the quicker the escape will be available to you.

Once the cage is set up, place a single loot bag in, set up the balloon and pull it out. Now all you have to do is wait for the balloon to be picked up.

During this time you should be lockpicking the last of the deposit boxes for the last of the loot bags. Once all the bags have been moved to the now available sewer escape, be sure to open the sewer and drop all of the loot bags in, do NOT enter the sewer as you will trigger the 'Point of No Return' timer.

It's recommended to have 2 out of the 4 in your crew to look for the exit as the sewers split into two paths. Plan between yourselves who will search left and who will search right whilst the remaining two in your crew moves the bags to the point of the sewer where it splits until you finally know where the escape is. Ignore the law enforcement as much as possible.

Fighting them will distract yourself too much and you're only given roughly 3 minutes to move all of the loot bags through the sewers and to the escape van on the other side. Shoot them if you have to, but try and avoid it. This can be done on any difficulty. Vlad must be dreaming of a White Christmas. This section of the guide will cover the achievements added in the White Xmas update. Here are a few things you should consider before attempting this heist.

You can leave within 10 minutes on all difficulties, but you can stay for as long as you please collecting the goods that fall from the Sky. If the equipment is described as Don't Prioritse, bring it if you feel it will be useful, or you have a build focused on that equipment. If the equipment is described as Useless, it must not be brought under any circumstances. Can It? I have Build Your Own Boat Roller Ramp 60ml people who found it in 15 minutes and people including me who found it after 4 hours.

Difficulty does not seem to affect the chances on it's drop. Here is an image of the toast. Stealing Christmas Attempt at Level 25 and Above. Claustrophobia Attempt at Level 75 and Above. Riders on the Snowstorm Attempt at Level 90 and Above.

Jingle bells force those elves to make more coke for Vlad. Don't let the cops make them stop 'cos that will make him sad. This section of the guide will cover the achievements added in the Santa's Workshop update.

Santa Slays Slackers This is best done on Overkill; nothing higher. Make sure you designate one person to cover the elves at all times while the rest of your crew moves the presents when the loot can be secured. It will take a lot to kill the elves on Overkill so you shouldn't need to worry about them. The achievement will pop 30 minutes after the first assault wave has begun.

Only Santa Brings Gifts This can also be done on normal. You must not buy any assets or place down any equipment until the 10th bag has been secured to get this one. Cable Ties should also not be used This one needs confirmation. The video below is a guide for the two above achievements. This achievement is not easy and requires good co-operation between you and and if possible a four-man crew. High levels are recommended, and make sure the requirements are met.

Whilst you're restricted to using only the "Platypus 70" for the primary weapon and the "Judge" for the secondary, you're allowed to modify your weapon. Providing you've got mods available to you, take advantage of it as much as you can. Perk decks are also allowed seeing as you are unable to remove them, once again, take advantage of a perk deck that will benefit you more in a suit.

Below is a free and DLC recommendation. Rogue Free Rogue gives you the chance to dodge attacks as well as a faster weapon swap depending on how much the perk deck has been leveled. It's a good idea to upgrade this as much as possible.

Grinder DLC Grinder allows you to regenerate health with every bit of damage you do to the enemy, this is good as medic bags are not available to you unless purchased through preplanning. Once again, leveling this perk deck first is a good idea.

Depending on the concealment and skill, you can stealth days to make the heist less of a hassle in terms of less guards to worry about. But ultimately it's better to just fight the law enforcement. Day 1 You can stealth up until the minimum required bags has been met, the rest are entirely optional. If you're able to reach the van in stealth, you will not have to face an escape.

Preplanning might be a good idea in case you need medic or ammo bags. Day 2 Depending on whether or not the first day has been stealthed, you will not have to deal with an ambush for this day. Otherwise, taking the bags of money is not a requirement, you're able to run for the escape van if you have any doubts. Day 3 On the off chance stealth isn't an option, it's ideal to listen out for the computer in the security room, it's very quiet, so listen carefully.

With a four man crew, you're able to guard both of the security boxes until the upload is complete, two on each box. Preplanning is recommended for both medic and ammo bags.

Each of the elves can make a present in around minutes excluding any pauses they may have. Move the coke into the middle section of the area you have to cover. This is to make sure the coke will have to be moved around the same distance depending on which side the open chimney will be on.

If you are able to complete the titan safe event with 2 of almir's toasts, get two extra bags to be sure. Bags of equipment will be throw out of the chimney starting from when you have the minimum amount of coke. These can be placed in some of the doors and will kill any enemy that goes through it when the button has been pressed.

Regarding weapons and equipment, bring what you are most comfortable with. And finally, choose your favourite heist track since this is going to become a very mundane task by the time you finish it. The video below is a guide for the above two achievements.

You can also bring whatever melee and throwable you want since they will not count against the achievement. Since this can be completed on normal and there will be snipers you probably won't be able to hit, it is best to do it there.

For the fourth annual christmas heist, we're helping drunken Almi- I mean Vlad's brother once again to stop Vlad from being sad. This section of the guide will cover the achievements added in the Stealing Xmas update. Christmas Party Since this achievement can be done on any difficulty, it is actually really easy. There will be plenty of civilians around the map for you to tie, but the cops are definitely going to try and take a few from you.

Make sure that at least 2 people are defending the civilians at all times. Having a few sentry turrets around the area can make your life much easier too. The Grinch There will be 9 additional bags and 3 mission bags for you to deal with here. Some of them will be in safes, others will be in the Jewelry Store there. Search behind every counter for the safes and also make sure that you check the office in the Shoe Store as that can hold some additional loot as well.

The achievement will pop as soon as you've secured the last bag, so spend as much time as you need! Imitations We couldn't go a few months without more memes in the game, could we Overkill?

This is another hidden item achievement. There will be 2 masks located around the map. The achievement will pop as soon as you have found them. The guide below should show you where to get the masks. With Bain currently being held hostage, Locke has provided us with a job to help us find the elusive holy grail, and with it, the long-awaited solution to the PAYDAY 2 secret. This section of the guide will cover the achievements added in the Brooklyn Bank update.

All the Gold in Brooklyn The gold in this heist can be found in the vault, and inside it there should be enough bags to complete the requirements of this achievement. I would recommend securing these bags as a group as moving across the street towards the escape is very risky.

If your escape route is in the range of a SWAT turret, deal with that before you start moving the bags. The achievement will unlock once you complete the heist.

Obsessive Opening This is actually very easy. To unlock the deposit boxes, head up to the top floor of a bank and search for a laptop. Activate this laptop three times, and each time you finish a hack, a new set of ten deposit boxes will be revealed.

The ATM machines can be found around the ground floor of the bank or around the surroundings of the bank, but the locations of them will be very obvious and easy to find. It is highly recommended that you bring at least one person with a saw to speed the opening of the deposit boxes up. This achievement will unlock as soon as you have opened the last item requirement.

You do not need to finish the heist. Animal Kingdom Raise your hand if you wanted more four man mask achievements. If you raised your hand, you're insane. To complete this achievement, you will need to have two people in your lobby who have completed the prior two achievements, so it might be difficult to find a full group for this. I would recommend heading to the 'Crews and Clans' subforum on the PAYDAY 2 steam discussions to find a squad if you cannot find friends to complete this with.

Get ready to take down armored transports, Heat Style. These achievements are from the Armored Transport Update. Some of them will require the Ultimate Edition and some won't, but for those that do, you will need to find a host that has the ability to host them.

If you would like to know what content this DLC contains, click on the link below. This is only possible as long as three trucks are present. Get a team with a loadout of at least one saw and at least one technician with drilling perks.

Do NOT bring C4 as some of the gold might be caught in the blast. Once you have confirmed there is gold, begin moving the gold to a safe spot, preferably by a pick-up point.

This is easiest to do on the Downtown heist as Bain will give away whether it is a van or helicopter as the escape. This will tell you exactly where to move the bags As each getaway vehicle only has one spawnpoint. This achievement is focused mostly on luck. It can be completed on any difficulty, but higher difficulties increase the chance of more trucks spawning.

All you need to do is drill open all of the trucks that crash and saw each box, looking for an intel package. Upon picking it up, your team will be awarded the achievement. If all else fails, you're welcome to restart and try your luck again. Also, a small group of friends can help due to how many bags have to be moved.

Things have changed ever since the Train Heist has become officially purchasable via Crime. Net , shells now behave like regular bags and will not blow up on harsh impact with the ground, meaning you can be as rough as you'd like. For the sake of nostalgia, the previous Train Heist version for this achievement will be kept as well as the newer version below to show a comparison on how much easier it has become.

Doing this on 'Normal' difficulty reduces the sniper's accuracy and damage significantly; you'll hardly notice they're there. It's ideal to not attempt this with bots or converted hostages as they will attempt to attack and kill the snipers. If you want to farm it, load up a heist on 'Normal' difficulty and have fun shooting. As with the newly introduced heists, there are a couple of easy solutions to getting this achievement with ease as some heists provide a lot and up close snipers.

It's a good idea to attempt this achievement on a higher difficulty. This will allow more snipers to spawn often. Be sure to do a difficulty you can handle. Hoxton Breakout: Alot of snipers can be found on the second day. They shouldn't be too hard to hit either because of how close they spawn. Election Day Plan C : Plenty of snipers outside of the building and near the bank windows.

This day can be accessed by picking the wrong truck on the first day. Hotline Miami: Day Two is where you'll find all of the snipers. They spawn commonly and they're at an easy distance to shoot them at. This can take only 10 minutes. If possible, try and get the 'Combat Doctor' skill to allow you to place down two medic bags in one match. This will make the process twice as fast.

Choosing a heist that starts you with your mask on will save you a few seconds, too. It's an achievement you may as well be earning over time. However, there's a somewhat fast method on getting the achievement.

There's the chance of shields spawning outside of the truck when starting Watchdogs. Anything above Very Hard will increase the chances of the shields spawning. You just need a group of friends and the Jewelry Store Vantage Point. This achievement could otherwise still be done easily on Bank Heist; it will just take a little more time.

They are relatively easy, but to speed it up make sure you are in a group of 4; 2 of those having shaped charges and 1 with a saw. This method will take about 5 minutes per heist. Not the best start to the year, but at least it's enjoyable. This section will cover the achievements added in the Goat Simulator Heist update.

You do not need the Ultimate Edition to unlock these achievements. The location of the goat is within the evidence room on Day 2 of the "Firestarter" job, so don't waste your time searching on the first day. Whether or not you choose to stealth or go loud has no impact on the achievement. Depending on whether or not there is loot aside from the goat inside of the evidence room, the van may or may not open in order to allow you to store the goat.

If that happens, you'll have to wait until you've obtained the server until being able to secure the goat. You'll receive the achievement upon securing. It is recommended obtaining the "Transporter" skill found in the "Enforcer" skill tree. You might want to practice tossing and catching light bags or a goat in general before trying to string together a kill and a catch.

Trying this on the lowest difficulty will save a lot of hassle as well as disabling Team AI incase the kill is snatched mid attempt. Fast movement is recommended if available to you.

The reason for the difficulties not to be too low is due to the goat spawns. Reduced goat spawns means harder times finding them, and you'll want to have 6 goats and hand and ready to move. It also means avoiding awkward goat spawns. Such as the following: - Apartment Goat - Trapped in store Goat - Streetlight Goat Be sure to put the car to use, store four goats into the vehicle and have another two heisters move two more goats on foot.

Wait at the center and keep a close eye out for the truck. In order to prepare for the heist, you need to consider the security door you'll be faced with on the way to the escape truck. There are a few better methods of tackling this as drill skills will barely get you through the achievement: - Shaped Charges Recommended - ECM Specialist ACED Recommended - Saw Strongly Recommended During the heist, you want to be as close to the truck as possible when the plane attempts to pick up the skycage, this is to ensure you and your crew are ready to get in the vehicle and drive.

Be sure to have good practice driving in the game or otherwise let another player drive for you. Avoid taking as much damage to the car as possible, depending on the difficulty and chance, you'll be faced with a lot of SWAT turrets. Too much damage to the car will eventually mean repairing the car, this can stall progress and can even cost the achievement. Remember to watch the bridge progress, law enforcement will attempt to stop the rotation, but otherwise, you shouldn't have too much trouble.

As always, low difficulties are always recommended. This achievement can take up to minutes, so you may want to make the time in order to attempt it. This requires you to secure the goats one at a time; this means assembling the cage a total of 13 times, 1 per goat.

This is of course if you're trying to do the achievement on the "Overkill" difficulty. Deathwish and above is 15 The side room in the barn is probably the most securable spot, search for planks and board up the room, be sure to move the goats into that area, too. Eventually you'll need to set up the cage near the bridge, so be sure to take care of the nearby SWAT turret when possible.

He can be found down the road, past the bridge. With a crew of four, three can collect the cage pieces whilst the last crew member collects and moves the goat to the requested position. The achievement will unlock as soon as the last goat is delivered.

The journey to saving Hoxton begins here. Some of these achievements will require the Ultimate Edition and some won't. For those that don't, you will need to find a host that has the ability to host the heist. Mask Related Achievements Phew! On the second day of the 'Hotline Miami' heist, you'll be in search for someone strapped to a chair surrounded by money bags and a load of C4 around his chest.

Make sure you're ready to defuse. He'll be found after the second flight of stairs. His location could vary from the open hallway to one of the surrounding rooms.

Be sure to look around. Whilst it's unlikely you'll miss him, it's still possible. There are several things that could help assure you unlock the achievement. The first one being the sort of skills to bring along. A saw can strongly benefit you; either that or a good set of drill skills.

The rest is all down to practice and being familiar with the apartment building, how you get around it, etc. You're looking for a total of 6 sets of meth ingredients out of the possible sets that could spawn within the map.

There's a few methods on how you could tell you're likely guaranteed a total of 6 ingredients in the event you'd like to restart and try again. Be sure to check the meth lab storage boxes. If you're able to find sets inside of the boxes, you could possibly find sets in the hideout which could add to a total of 6 sets needed to unlock the achievement.

Be sure not to blow up the lab and screw everything up once you know you have enough ingredients. Below is an example of how to cook the meth ingredients. On the wall there's an order in which the meth ingredients are supposed to be cooked. Start the heist on 'Normal' difficulty with the DLC baseball bat equipped Not to be mistaken with the Lucille and kill all of the thugs on the map, then restart.

This should take no longer than 10 minutes. Be careful. The mobsters still do a fair amount of damage, so bring a lot of armor and health related skills and perks. Disabling AI assures no kills are stolen by the bots that follow you about and is strongly recommended to getting things done quicker. This achievement can be done easily on the lowest difficulty. Whilst this achievement can be done easily, regardless to the name of the achievement, silence doesn't mean it can't be done loudly.

Stealth Doing this stealth can be done providing you avoid all of the guards that could possibly get in the way. In the event you get caught, it's ideal to have the skill 'Dominator' to save yourself from killing them, and instead, handcuff them.

You will need a specific build to do it, especially if you want it done solo. It could be done easier with others with more health equipment, but this method is to show you how to do it when you have no one available.

Bring double saws Yes, I'm serious and a high knockdown, low damage melee weapon. If a guard is in your way of restarting an objective, simply hit him once or twice and he should comply when attempting to dominate him. Never stop in one place for too long or you might face the consequences. You have plenty so use them to be safe. Use it to your advantage and take routes to avoid the cops. If they get a kill, you won't get the achievement.

If you are playing with others, no one must get a single kill. Remember the Hoxton Breakout Heist, Day 1 specifically? At the end, one of your crew members has to insert a ticket into the machine. It is best to do this on Normal since it is the easiest difficulty and it will always give you enough for the vaults and for the ticket machine.

It looks exactly the same as the one in the Hoxton Breakout Heist. The achievement will pop as soon as the C4 goes off. Move all of the loot to the entrance desks. Pick up a bag, stand on the desk, jump then throw the bag to the top. It will either land just on the edge of the top floor, or you will miss it slightly which is more likely. Having two people throwing the bags up and two people at the top floor ready to catch the bags will make securing the loot much easier.

You only need to secure the minimal amount and finish the heist to get this achievement. Transporter Basic is required for this And if you don't already have it in every build you have, what are you doing? Stev Doing this shouldn't really need a guide and is pretty self explanatory, in the event you fail the first time, you might as well restart.

Attempting this stealthily will save you the trouble of fighting off law enforcement whilst trying to focus on what button to press as well as the additional side objectives such as fires and broken machinery. The Elephant is back, contracting his first loud only heist and bringing along with it, a new crew member on the run from his former gang.

This secion will cover the achievements added in the Biker Heist update. You do not need the Ultimate Edition to unlock them. As you complete the objectives in the heist, you will be directed to defend the mechanic on 3 separate occasions. As soon as the objective switches to 'Defend the Mechanic', make sure that your entire crew is fending the cops off him.

If one gets close, the mechanic will stop and you will have to restart the heist to attempt it again. Once the third defence stage has been completed, you will get the achievement as soon as you finish this day of the heist. A recommended equipment setup for this heist would be having 2 players invest into the Engineer subtree in Technician so they are able to bring along sentry guns, 1 player with medical equipment Mastermind - Medic, preferably doctor bags and 1 player with ammo Enforcer - Ammo Specialist.

Somewhere inside the buildings of the heist, there will be a large bottle pictured below. The game iwll not tell you to interact with it, but the bottle will look similar to the one in the achievement image. If you have a location for the bottle not pictured here in the guide, comment with a screenshot and we will add it to the guide, with credit given of course.

This one is directly above and to the right of where you spawn. It can be accessed by going to the first floor of the clubhouse. This location will only be a possibility of you have bought the Vantage Point asset, otherwise it will not appear. It is found directly behind the wooden boards and the smaller bottles at the vantage point. This one is right next to your spawn above the bar. This is located inside the bunker where you will eventually have to go and get the seat from.

It is next to the ladder leaving the bunker behind some wooden boards. Credit to Athener for the third and fourth images! Full Throttle This one will be very easy when you remember how to get past each of the obstacles found on the train.

It is recommended that you play this day a couple of times before attempting the achievement so you have a general idea of where the cops will spawn and when and where is the best time to stop and shoot some of them, since you can't deal with every cop along the way as you will run out of time. The only huge obstacle you're going to face is the heavily armored enemy right at the end of the train.

Without a large amount of DPS, you may be there a while before you can move on. If your build has the capability for dodge then it is best to use it this day. If your build is based around armor, instead of taking one of the heavy vests, go for a medium one. You will still get a decent amount of defence but you'll also be able to move faster.

Finally, it highly recommended that you invest in the Run and Gun and Parkour perks Ghost - Artful Dodger as they will be one of the biggest helpers when attempting this achievement They're also good perks to add to most builds. All you have to do is have a couple of high damage weapons with your team and this achievement will be yours in no time.

Just make sure to take cover while taking it out since it is able to get through the heaviest types of armor in a matter of seconds. Some recommended weapons to bring along to this include any sniper rifle, especially the thanatos, any semi auto rifle and any high damage revolver.

To steal the item of interest, we have two choices. We can either have a great time stealing it at the Dockyard, or we can fall off the side of a hill near the Forest. Difficult choice right? This section of the guide will cover the achievements added in The Bomb Heists update. Attempting this on a lower difficulty is recommended. Upon doing this achievement on 'Normal' difficulty, you're given exactly two power boxes to watch over whilst the computer is in the hacking process.

Be sure to search for these boxes before beginning to hack. Doing this achievement with a group of friends assures that the boxes are easier to watch over. Three ECMs should be enough in order to keep the alarm off during the attempt. Be sure to plan well and split yourselves up to two sides.

Run into the warehouses and search for the keycards. There is a possibility that the keycards can both be on one side, so it's a good idea to have more than two in case that situation ever occurs.

They'll be found in small boxes similar to the 'Hotline Miami' meth lab. This is now incredibly easy to do. Simply open all of the containers until you find the lab and the achievement will pop up. This achievement can be done on the rare occasion with the 'Ace Pilot' asset, too.

There is the rare chance that you could fill up the entire train cart without the hose coming loose from the train whilst using the 'Ace Pilot' asset, but this means depending on luck to get the achievement. The most ideal method to do this would be to use the hose by default. Be familiar with the joints of the hose because that's what the law enforcement will try and disable. They will NOT go for the water pump, only the hose joints.

Providing you have a good team to watch the hose, this should be an easy task. Doing the heist loudly at any point will not be accepted towards the achievement and will require a restart. The fourth could use the chainsaw located somewhere in the forest. This can be unlocked at the start of the heist but this would require all four players to be carrying a saw in order to make the achievement possible.

One crew member must saw two trees whilst the others can saw one each. The player sawing two trees is recommended to use the 'Portable Saw' skill. The best way to co-operate would be to agree on a time to saw the trees so it's all done simultaneously, making the process quicker and more efficient.

You will know which trees need to be cut because of the 'Saw' marks located on them. You're looking for a total of five civilians. Three workers can be found roaming the wreckage inside of the forest and another two located at the car stopped at the road.

You can't miss the two civilians, but the workers may be tricky to locate. It's ideal to use the 'Stockholm Syndrome' skill to keep the construction workers down where ever they may be running around to help assure they don't escape before you can reach them. The most ideal spot to watch civilians is a rock located not too far from the road, the more players you have, the easier this entire achievement will be.

Split yourselves up into two; the first group should watch the civilians and the other group should go on to complete objectives. Once all objectives are completed and the escape is available, be sure to eliminate any law enforcement near the civilians before making a run for the escape. They must still be in the map before you escape. These achievements are from the bank that makes First World Bank look like a toy store. This section of the guide will cover the achievements added in The Big Bank update.

Nobody cares about how poor you are. Spend some money in Preplanning before the start of the heist until no more favors are available. Don't Bring the Heat This requires you to go from start to finish without having to go loud and stealth it all the way through.

This is recommended on lower difficulties as there will be a lot less guards in the vault area. Unless you're incredibly quick and lucky, stealth may or may not be an option. If you can open the vault quick enough without being detected, you're taking off many minutes which would have originally been towards drilling. This achievement is recommended for being completed on the lowest available difficulty Hard.

The recommended escape for this achievement is the Bus Escape as it's the closest to the vault location. Stealth : You can stealth it up until the vault is open.

As long as it's open, you're more than welcome to go loud as you're now focusing on moving the bags to whatever escape is available to you. A saw is strongly recommended for opening the doors to the loot inside of the vault. Player 1 : This player must be immediately on their way to the crane and start operating it. Player 2 : This player must come prepared with ECM Specialist to open the security door to the computers and the rewiring room on the rooftop.

Players 3 and 4 : These two must find out with is the right computer, one watching the computers whilst the other attempts to hack If you're incredibly lucky, this step isn't necessary. From here, the timer should have run down and the drill pieces are on the backs of three players as well as 4 sets of repair kits.

Make your way to the vault and hope to god the drill doesn't break down every so often. As three run to grab bags, one stays back to toggle the Bus Escape before rushing back into the vault for a fourth bag.

If this is pulled off quick enough, that achievement is yours for the taking. Best to play this as the lowest available difficulty to give yourself an easier time.

Do not change the escape, otherwise you're disallowing yourself to get this achievement. There's nothing to fear about the lasers, anybody can pass through them regardless of their ping, timing is the only thing that's important when it comes getting through them. You can pass bags through them without the alarm going off as well, so no need to avoid lasers when it comes to throwing bags through them. Lasers will always have a set pattern and loop, so they're easily memorable and there's always one point in the pattern that you can slip through.

The laser pattern is random every time and can either be a pattern of three or a pattern of six. If you can successfully stealth the vault area for up to 12 bags, the only problem you'll face is getting in and out of those lasers, otherwise you're fine. Have one person hack the server computer whilst another goes through the nearby computers in search for the source of the beep on every hack attempt.

The closer you are to the computer, the louder the beep. The correct computer will also display a red error message on the screen when attempting to hack; this is the correct computer you're looking for. Sweet Sixteen Loud or Silent, take your pick. Be sure to leave that bank with 16 bags at a difficulty of your choice.

The lowest available difficulty is recommended 12 bags will always be available to you, but the remaining 4 will require you to either lockpick or saw open deposit boxes for them. It Takes a Pig to Kill a Pig Time your drop right and have that pig at the ready; this requires co-operation between friends.

Have one person lure the law enforcement towards the center staircase. A good method for doing this would be to take some hostages and move them towards the stairs. Police will move in towards them in an attempt to free them. Once they attempt to do so, signal your friend at the crane to drop the pig. Don't worry, hostages will go unharmed. And it was around that time that her increased stress led to serious migraines.

As a precaution she had him sign a few extra consent forms and she found out that her brother was well on his way to having full-blown AIDS because it turned out that Tom had been into all kinds of people for quite a while. And so, without much warning she found herself caring for someone well on the way to being dead. Her migraines grew worse.

Pharmaceutical reps began stocking her ER with samples of fentanyl patches, and these treated her migraines rather well. Rather too well, some might say.

And soon enough Becky Callahan was taking a one-way ride on the Sawyer family roller coaster yet she managed to maintain her cool at work by tightly managing her addiction.

Her work for Callahan Air Transport Medevac Division, simply made her a more visible presence in the local medical community, expanding her credentials and credibility just as her addiction began to peak. Then Tom died a slow, gruesome death and one she was forced to endure while looking on helplessly.

She grew careless at work, often wearing fentanyl patches on the floor. Then she was caught stealing fentanyl from the ER stockroom, and Al Bressler worked the case. Harry became involved, her family background came into the open and he finally filed for divorce. She was fired from the hospital, her fall from grace as swift as it was final. Her case went to trial and she was convicted, but due to the circumstances she was given probation.

Once home she took her remaining supply of hidden fentanyl patches and applied every one of them inside her arms and thighs, and she never woke up. The kids knew how to ski by then; Elizabeth was going to college the next year and Lloyd had just turned ten, and Cathy had been taking them up to Tahoe to ski for years.

But Davos was different, because Switzerland is not California and as stupidly simpleminded as this seems it is a distinction too often lost on many people. For, as Harry had learned decades ago, there were villages in Switzerland that were already thousands of years old so already old places long before the Americas were even discovered. Switzerland was, unlike the United States, a land governed by Tradition, ancient ways of being that made little sense to the freeway loving, suburban living people in North America.

And this was a distinction not lost on Harry. Yet for years he had wanted Elizabeth and Lloyd to come to terms with those differences, to understand them and, hopefully, come to appreciate them, as well.

And Didi Rooney soon became instrumental in this other part of their education. Every summer she took the kids her own as well as Lloyd and Elizabeth to Davos, and as Cathy and Harry usually came for the music festival in Montreux, they also spent time with the kids there. So the kids, Lloyd and Elizabeth, grew up with another world of generally happy memories rooted in the mountains of Switzerland, yet for some reason, the kids had never come over in the winter.

Skiing in Switzerland is different from what most skiers in the Americas are used to. Cog-railways haul skiers to the summits of famous peaks in Switzerland, and Swiss skiers had for a hundred years dined in fine restaurants sprinkled all over these mountains. Meanwhile, in the America that came of age in the 60s and 70s, bulk-made cheeseburgers were on hand, served in cafeteria-style lodges designed to hold thousands of skiers.

As he had when he first met Sara, he took Cathy and the kids up the funicular railway to the mountaintop station; they skied several runs together, then Harry begged off another just before lunch.

He took Cathy to the restaurant and they had fondue and salad while they looked out over the alps, and an hour later the kids arrived, tired and finally ready to eat something. They all made a few more runs after lunch, then skied back through the village and all the way out to the house. They followed much the same routine for several days and Lloyd seemed quite happy with his surroundings; indeed, to his father, the boy seemed happier than he had in months.

And not to stretch the point too far, Harry felt happier than he had in years, and he put this down to Cathy being with him. There was an easygoing intimacy between these two old friends now, an intimacy borne of time and shared memory. Harry wore tweed jackets these days and occasionally smoked a pipe, too, and though he needed glasses to read he rarely used them, hating the very idea of the blasted things.

And in a funny, almost an odd way, Cathy fit into this category as well. They had ended up together almost by default, like time had worn away all the extraneous things in their lives and each other was all that remained. And somehow Harry was sure that Frank would have approved. Yet a seismic shift was underway, a kind of tectonic moving of plates happening right before all their eyes.

Cathy had been sleeping in a bedroom by herself until that night, but after the plates realigned in their new orientation she woke up in his arms, and there she would remain forevermore. Didi was first to notice this first tectonic shift, this first gentle realignment.

Was that a mischievous twinkle she saw? A release of pressure? But Cathy was far less pretentious with her feelings that morning, and even the kids seemed to be skipping on air as they stepped out into the crisp winter light, so there was no question in her mind when she drove Harry and his new family to the station.

After she dropped them off she returned to the house and put away the Rover, then she called a taxi to take her to the train station to rejoin the group.

But as it was still her duty even now she called in and reported this new development to her handlers at the Mossad, then she called Tel Aviv and talked with her father. He was not at all impressed. The tea house and the various music additions were complete by that time, and with all the activity surrounding these various projects at an end life above the cliffs took on quieter hues.

Perhaps not quiet the warm golden rays of a prolonged Northern California sunset, but fading in that direction. Fading because Callahan had followed through and stopped flying. And of course DD understood the score first of all and began planning accordingly. Curiously, Callahan maintained his status as a Reserve Inspector with the police department. Harry went in one weekend a month and worked a solid 48 hour shift, catnapping when he could, and he opted to remain on-call status for really important incidents.

For some reason Cathy seemed to understand this was a need, not a want; Harry was after all, just like Frank, a cop. They always would be, she realized, and there was by this point in her life no need to fight the unique gravity that bound Harry to this calling. But Harry was, after his return from Davos, pulled in other less certain directions by an unexpected new gravity, and just as comets orbit their home star, Lloyd Callahan was pulled along on this new, disconcerting path.

There were times when he took it out and looked at key passages, yet he understood that he could never, not ever and under any circumstances, play the key final passage at least the end his mother had created. Have you known him, as well? I suppose, you see, because I interpreted the music of others I rarely composed on my own, and I think I was, in effect, shackled to the past.

Your mother saw the world in a different light, and the result was she experienced music quite differently than most others. She understood, and I think explicitly so, that music was for her a conveyance. How things must have changed since then, he thought, but reallyhow little might the important things change? Yes, change was in the air always. The wall was coming down in Berlin so Germany would be thrust into the miasma of unification, but perhaps with the Soviet Union dead and gone Europe would find herself in a new Golden Ageyet here in this little corner of the universe change was a little more hesitant, perhaps even resistant.

Gulls still wheeled about over the water and cotton-candy clouds scudded by in a majestic simplicity all their own, and as he stood there looking over the scene it was almost inevitable that soon he imagined he could hear horse-drawn carriages clip-clopping down cobblestone byways of the mind, and when he closed his eyes standing exactly where his mother had so many times in her youth he could almost see three-masted sailing ships gliding into the harbor.

Henry appeared feverish the next morning; his skin was a grim waxy gray and with a tinge of yellow around his eyelids. Mike heard him moving around down in the aft cabin and he went below to check on him; he found Henry leaning over the sink in the head, splashing his face with cool water. Henry looked up, saw Mike in the mirror and grinned. AndDina and Rolf disappeared after you came down here.

If something happens between now and then, get one of Them to bring Dina back. The point, Mike, is that many of them trust me. Mike sighed. Mike looked down. He reminds me of one of my redneck uncles. From a distance LeHavre looked almost pristine, but by the time Time Bandits approached the entrance to the commercial harbor the picture had soured considerably.

The storm had blown out windows on the windward sides of every building in view, and a huge crane used to offload containers from ships had been knocked loose from its foundations and now lay drunkenly half in and half out of water. Time Bandits was, anyway, far too big to fit in the inner harbor, so Henry had contented himself to tie off just outside the little locks just along the mole that led into the inner harbor.

So Taggart slipped anti-nausea meds under his tongue and let them dissolve there while he ordered lobster bisque and escargot, then salad and duck. Anton had never been in western Europe, had never eaten anything like what he enjoyed that afternoon, and after a few bottles of red had warmed his soul a little he loosened up and talked a little.

Tearing up the sky as he took off from from a captured air base just outside of Amsterdam, turning to engage flights of Fs and Fs, and then his vague recollections of that last dogfight in the sky over a sailboat far, far below. Everything about that day. I should have died at least two, maybe three times. My ejection seat had no life raft, and I forgot to put on my, what you call it, my May West. So no life jacket.

And I eject at forty thousand feet and fall forever, and then I land in the water fifty feet from you. And now here I am in this place, because of you.

I never think like these things before, but I should have drowned that day. I should be dead. Instead, here I am, with you. Like a burden lifted from soul. That is how feel now. Henry looked at the Russian, studying the easy-going warmth coming from his eyes just then. What do you want to do? Christmas Eve. Every Christmas Eve for the next eight years, as a matter of fact. One year when we came, and I was seventeen, my girlfriend had just died.

Breast cancer, if you can wrap your head around that. They finished their meal after plates of cheese and glasses of port, then Taggart led them along smooth cobblestones through twisting alleys to a small chapel lost inside an ancient medieval neighborhood.

Anton and Mike looked at the old building, then at Henry. And there was something strange about Henry Taggart deep inside that moment, something otherworldly, almost like the moment was possessed of other times.

Or perhaps more like Henry had slipped free of his body, of the time they were sharing, and that Henry had slipped away leaving the husk of his body standing there on the wet cobbles while he drifted through time to a place more comforting.

But he came back to them, and Mike thought Henry looked contented. More content even than a man whose belly had just been filled with the most delicious food in France.

And then Mike looked at Anton, and he saw that the burly old Russian was in tears, weeping openly. Or again, and perhaps more to the point, who kept you from drowning? The orca? He ordered three and Mike and Anton watched in rapt awe as three Nutella and banana crepes took shape, only to be doused in Gran Marnier and flamed before being put on paper plates. Anton took one bite and swooned while Henry smiled at the memories of a little boy.

As they approached Time Bandits Henry saw men gathered there dockside, waiting, and when they moved to step aboard more men stepped out of the shadows and surrounded them. Military Police. French Air Force. NATO Intelligence. And a captain from U. The group surrounded the Russian aviator. Handcuffs appeared, then Anton disappeared into the back of a dark blue Land Rover festooned with French military insignia. Henry turned and found Mike conversing with several of the NATO types; he turned his back on Lacy and stepped aboard, then he went below to take some meds while he was still able to concentrate.

When Henry had calmed down he went back up to the cockpit and found Mike waiting for him there. He looked up to the masthead and saw only faint stars painted across the dome of the night.

No spinning orbs. No Pinky. Taggart sat and flipped on the radio then hit the preset for the BBC World Service; he sat and listened to reports of nations around the earth slowly sorting through the rubble of sundered relations and dealing with simmering rumors of retribution, not at all surprised that things appeared to be headed to renewed conflicts in eastern Europe.

He sighed and turned on the plotter and switched over to the weather overlay; a huge high pressure system had settled in over western Europe and several days of warm weather stretched ahead. Que sera, sera. Whatever will be, will be. And there she was, walking along the quay in pink culottes and a pastel yellow sweater. Short blond hair, a pink scarf over her head.

She walked up to Time Bandits and stopped by the gate in the lifelines. He smiled and walked over to the gate and extended his hand. Her face split into an immense smile.

Your father took me up to a couple of your home games. I watched you play, and I always watched out for you when you came back from races. She smiled again then leaned forward and pinched him playfully on the cheek, but then she stood and walked over to the gate and hopped down to the quay.

But she stopped and turned away from him before she walked off into the night, leaving him alone with a million impossible questions hanging in the air apparent. Hopefully Harry will join us in a day or so. I got the second jab of the Pfizer vaccine earlier this week and I can report it offers peace of mind as well as a real swift kick in the pants. Injection site pain check , fever check , muscle aches check , as well as night sweats check have made for a week much less productive than anticipated.

And one of our girls is about to have puppies, too, and that will no doubt interfere with writing for a week or so. Anyway, enough of this blather. Sailing less than a mile off the beach, Time Bandits felt like she was finally back in her element now slipping along silently under full sail in the gentlest conditions, making easy headway in a close reach about a mile off the beach.

Only now her crew was, literally and figuratively, sailing in the dark. With no moon up, the shoreline was a blackish-green strip hard to differentiate from the sea, and every village and town they passed was darker than dark. A few homes and shops had candles going in windows, but those were the exception, not the rule, and there were no cars out on the roads yetmaking the passing landscape feel almost medieval.

And all the large commercial ships normally steaming through the English Channel 24 hours a day were at a standstill, too, with no lights visible and all of them swinging at anchor. No aircraft had been visible since the massive CME hit earlier that day, and Anton mentioned that any aircraft out over the open ocean would have probably been lost unless they were within gliding range of nearby land.

This had been a world driven by the internet and guided by GPS, that now suddenly, dauntingly had grown coldly silent, like a cemetery in winter. Stock exchanges? Ordering food or goods online? Having chest pain at midnight? Good luck with that.

Taggart wondered how long the niceties of civilization would last under these conditions? How long would it take for local governments to reassert control after two centuries of centralized federalism?

Would a new ice age begin, or would warming accelerate? And every question Henry asked himself led his gaze to Rolf. How would the boy handle all these changes? Then the real question came into sharp relief. He looked at Mike and the boy hunched over their charts, advancing the plot laboriously. They were marking objects on shore and timing passages on an ancient windup Omega wristwatch, then deriving first their speed then their distance made good, then marking their progress on the chart and though Rolf was soaking up the knowledge like a sponge focused and interested, Henry wondered if the boy could see and understand that now more than ever knowledge meant survival.

And so Henry quite naturally thought of his father and their own passing rituals. How knowledge and understanding was passed quite naturally from one generation to the next, whether at sea or on the football field, or even hunched over desks trying to wrap minds around quadratic equations. Then he looked at Dina and seemed a little surprised by what he saw. She was sitting almost rigidly at attention looking out to sea, as if with nothing else to do she had slipped into some kind of hibernation modeyet she had been like this since her brief disappearance the day before.

They would, he knew, be in LeHavre tomorrow, and there, for all intents and purposes this voyage would be over. He looked down, shaking his head at the thought of such an end to this last journey. Would he finish the trip on a train? Or on horseback? The water was warm here, Eva thought until she remembered she was breathing this water. Orwas she? She held her hands up in front of her face and could just make out the contours in the deep gloom, then she opened her mouth expecting fluid to rush in.

But nothing happened. Thick, moisture-laden air filled her lungs, then she leaned back until she felt the back of her head supported by water or something like it. She reached out and almost immediately felt that the large female orca was still by her side, still almost motionless, then, as her eyes grew adjusted to the light, she looked up and gasped at the sight. There were hundreds of stars overhead, but many were so close she could easily make out planets in orbit around themuntil she realized she was on a moon or some sort of satelliteperhaps a small moon orbiting a huge ringed planet.

Yet beyond this planet and the nearby stars were vibrant fields of ionizing gases nebulas of an astonishing variety of color and transparency, with pinks, yellows and pale greens predominating. Then a sliver of sunlight appeared on the limb of the planet overhead, and in this unexpectedly blueish light she saw land not at all far away. In fact, she saw a white structure of some kind, and then she felt Henry reaching out to her.

Dina has no recall of anything like that. Henry felt something odd and shook himself out of what felt almost like a trance-like state; he opened his eyes and looked up to find Anton standing by the wheel, but he was pointing at something ashore. Taggart looked where the aviator was pointing and sure enough just ahead he saw an island of bright lights not far from the coast, and they were seemingly ablaze within a small forest; he pulled out his binoculars and looked at the scene, smiling as he recognized the familiar shapes surrounding a large nuclear power plant.

Henry nodded and tried to stand, but now it felt like the bones in his legs were about to snap and he cried out after a sharp pain in his right knee left him almost breathless. He slumped back then felt helping hands lifting him and carrying him down the companionway steps, and a few minutes later he was back on his bunk and restlessly asleep.

Mike went topsides and found Rolf at the helm, still holding their course to parallel the coastline about a mile off the beach, and Mike resumed his work on the chart.

Mike nodded then looked up and as expected he found the upper atmosphere was a riot of iridescent pulsing waves, now filled with deep green and purple. He looked up in awe but a moment later the lifelines and the standing rigging began to glow, then even the winches and other deck hardware took on a blueish glow as static electricity began flooding through the atmosphere. They heard Dina shriek from down below and Mike shook his head.

She came thundering up the steps, glowering at Mike as she gained the cockpit, then she looked around with growing alarm in her eyes. Mike looked at Dina and smiled. Grumbling incoherently, an ambivalent Dina took off down the steps and disappeared into the aft cabin; Mike saw lights turn on and assumed Dina would begin looking after Henry, but Mike went to the hatch over the aft cabin and looked down; he instead saw her sitting down there like she was in some kind of deep trance, looking straight ahead and resolutely ignoring Taggart.

Mike looked up at the aviator, startled, but when he looked below again Dina was gone. He raced down below but she was nowhere to be found. He made his way back up to the cockpit and found Anton at the wheel, and now Rolf was nowhere to be seen.

Mike looked; beyond the masthead several dimly glowing spheres were up there in the mist, and for an instant Mike almost thought the orbs were talking amongst themselves.

One would pulse excitedly for a moment then grow dim, and then another would grow more animated for a while. Mike felt a little out of sorts now, too. And without her, how long could Henry hold on? Or wanted. It felt like the entire world was coming undone. Yeahwhat had happened? What do you mean by dicey? Have your badge with you? I called Didi from their little jail. No shit? What are you not telling me? Did you buy her a house?

Is it really your place? Kind of lazy. What are you going to do now? What are you up to? Gonna get new shingles on the roof and paint on the gables. You up to it? She made it personal. At this rate, we may finish by sundown. Two more squares? Maybe a tad more. The color is called Redwood Breeze. She needs something new. Crap like that. That was Art. Go get us a couple of Cokes? Not sure they could go back to the way it was.

Remember that, okay? A couple of parts seemed unfinished, the ending most of all. Lloyd nodded. I was just going to say that.

Technically, it belongs to me. No more Caverject? How was she? They do things differently in Switzerland. Not just tab A into slot B? Too much information! I had no idea. That Frank Bullitt character. How do you mean? Anyway, I doubt those two will last much longer. Too bad. Long time no see. You get it all figured out? What brings you out here? Wanna join us? Wanna drive down? Where-ya been? New Orleans, Texas, New Mexico. Just looking around.

SoWhat are you going to do now? Sam thinks I should. The division needs someone like you. So what? And I know nothing about her?

That may happen first. Lloyd Callahan held her until the paramedics arrived, and when Harry found his father he was still sitting on the patio deck, his face awash in tears, his bloody hands shaking uncontrollably Frank had a patrolman drive them up to the house, and the two of them wrestled Lloyd into a hot shower before they got him into bed. Frank was waiting for him.

Not by a long shot. Ireland might be far enough away, but I doubt it. We wait for you before start. Anyway, she bring whipping cream. He turned to look at Montard. At her eyes, her face, and at her soul. Is it too late? Sounds fun. How about that? For something sweet! There she is, there, in the streetlight. Why did he do it? Why did he betray his friends? Can I go back and interact with people? Butwhat happens if I do?

Then he shook his head as an unwanted memory came for him. You think so? As innot everything is all wrapped up in Oscar Peterson and Duke Ellington. But today felt different. And it never was. So, in all their lives. And Callahan grinned. After that everything was good. Maybe even cool. Where are you going with this? People we bring here from time to time.

Millions of years? Eva and Britt are there now, as well. You must be running a fever. He is not what he appears to be, Henry. You are in great danger, and so is she. Does she need to understand these things? Move off the bed now. Babies born, all doing well. All girls, by the way.

Thought you should know. It was Rolf. What happened? They were born in California a week ago. Are you still coming this weekend? I miss her. Soon, I hope. Schizophrenia, maybe? Well, yes, there is that. That was Pinky? A sweet alien. It took me a while to warm up, but thanks. You were very sweet. What does all this mean? I like him. Good people. Mike gives me the creeps. He came with you across the Atlantic?

You met him? Are you going in? Henry nodded. I saw him yesterday. Who else could it be? When will we get to those locks? I think we ought to tie off here and wait it out. I assume we can come back by train if we want?

Okay, can you make five knots? He called her on 16 then switched over to So you had to fuckinghit me? He just showed up at dinner one evening while I was with Tracy. Too bad for you, eh Mike? Navy still paying your medical insurance? This week I learn painting. Flowers maybe sound pretty good now. Go take medicine. No such things as books anymore, so you understand the dimensions of that problem. Maybe two or three times a day.

Sure you want to play with time like that? Where you hide whiskey? How could you be anything else? The ocean? The womb of what was, the first circle? A text. From Dina.
