Would definitely come back to this!". Apr 01, Airboat Ride in the Everglades. We debated doing this. As part of the Everglades restoration project, airboat rides are banned in the majority of the park. At the northeast corner, near Shark Valley, airboat rides are still permitted. Water is a great idea especially if you have kids. Now sit back and enjoy the ride. I highly recommend even with the mishaps and delays. The Captain handled the situation with humor and style. Sometimes the unexpected provides the most memories. Date of experience: May Thank you for the kind words!

It did turn out to be a very relaxing trip with entertainment from jelly fish and bear tracks on the island. Capt frank. Scott wrote a review Sep Great guy. We have been on his boat twice. Its a nice hours or so long airboat ride where the Captain shows you different birds and gives you a little education about the area. Date of experience: September Thank You so much! Capt Frank. Anniversary Trip. We went on this tour why we were visiting Fort Walton Beach for our 32nd Anniversary. The captain had lots of good information and history about the area. Although we didn't see much except a bird and some dolphins the day we went the weather was perfect with overcast skies and a little cooler.

It was fun to get to experience our first air boat ride in Florida, Thank You for the great memories. Date of experience: August Happy Anniversary! TY for the review! Jack56Ga wrote a review Sep Love this outing! Captain Frank and Shelly provide an awsomely fun and educational trip to the backwaters of the Ft Walton area.

This area is full of wildlife including Dolphins. We stopped to watch 3 dolphins play right around us for quite awhile. Great value for the price. We went with Captain Frank back in on a 15 passenger airboat and went back this year in We went on a 5 passenger boat that was really fast and agile.

Frank actually let play us Captain for a few minutes and drive the boat. Definately doing this again next time we are in Ft Walton. Thank you so much! Vincent M wrote a review Aug Newburgh, Indiana 23 contributions. Awesome airboat and great captain. My wife , brother in law , two step sons and one other went on this ride and enjoyed it very much.

The captian was great with history and knowlagble tid bits about the area. He gave everyone a chance to drive the airboat too and that was very cool. This si a must do if your i the area. Thank you sir! Learn more about renting bicycles, the Shark Valley Tram Tour, and book your tram seats here.

We went to Shark Valley but we did not go to the observation deck. We had an evening flight leaving from Ft. Lauderdale so we did not have enough time in our day to do this activity.

It was a bummer because people were raving about how many animals they got to see. We debated doing this. As part of the Everglades restoration project, airboat rides are banned in the majority of the park.

At the northeast corner, near Shark Valley, airboat rides are still permitted. These companies now operate in conjunction with the National Park Service. At the Flamingo Visitor Center, we had an interesting talk with a park ranger. He told us that the best way to see the Everglades is not by car, hiking, or tram.

Kayaking and canoe trips are very popular, but he also recommended that we take an airboat ride. So we did. There are several companies that offer tours of the wetlands. They are located in a cluster just a short drive from Shark Valley. We picked Coopertown simply because it was at the top of the list on the National Park Service website. The other two companies that are authorized to provide airboat tours in the Everglades are Gator Park and Everglades Safari Park.

It was a slow day, so we only had a few people on our airboat. For approximately 40 minutes, our driver took us on a tour of the wetlands. What a blast! The boat is propelled by a giant fan, so there is no propeller blade sitting in the water. Once this fan gets cranking, these boats can really move. It was a thrill racing through the wetlands and watching the tall grasses fly by. Our driver took his time on the way back, pointing out birds and several alligators resting in the shallow water.

The airboat ride Alligator Airboat Ride Near Me Out is a beautiful, thrilling way to see the Everglades. If you are visiting the Everglades with kids, they will love this. It can be loud but cotton balls are handed out to help with the noise. There was a 2 year old on our boat. She was given earmuffs to wear and she smiled through the whole ride.

For updated pricing and hours, visit the Coopertown website here. Bring sunscreen and insect repellent. There is very little shade here so having sunscreen is very important.

If you are visiting the Everglades between December and March, mosquitos are generally not an issue. However, at all other times of the year, make sure you are wearing insect repellent! We did not see any gas stations between the Ernest F. Coe and Flamingo Visitor Centers. There is a gas station at the Flamingo Visitor Center but it has been out of service since Hurricane Irma.

Make sure you have enough gas in your car before entering this part of the park. Consider skipping Flamingo Visitor Center. If seeing manatees and American crocodiles are not that important to you, and if you have no desire to go on a kayaking trip, consider skipping the Flamingo area of the park.

There is no guarantee that you will even see manatees or crocodiles if you drive all of the way down here. December through March is the best time to visit the Everglades.

Temperatures and mosquito levels are low. If you visit during the remaining months of the year, expect hot, humid conditions, swarms of mosquitos, and from July through November, there is the chance of a hurricane. We were here in early February. Mosquitos were not an issue at all, however, those biting flies were a big nuisance! We stayed in Homestead at the Courtyard by Marriott , which is just a minute drive from the Ernest F.

Our plan was to do the Coopertown boat and then drive into Shark Valley to have our book stamped and go on a hike. We are a little short on time as our trip is just a couple days in Miami. There is a sign for Shark Valley. If you go to Google Maps and you drop the little man icon on the road, you will see sign.

Here is a link to Google with a location of the sign. Cheers, Julie. We will start north and then head south towards Key Largo. So you can do the airboat tour in the morning and head right to the southern section of the Everglades. I think that plan works very well. When I booked our hotel, I was thinking we could drive to the Everglades and take the airboat tour from there, but it seems like all of the tours leave from Miami. That defeats my purpose of booking our hotel further south, since Airboat Ride Tours Near Me Mode we would have to drive back to Miami for the tour.

Is there any tour that leaves from the national park area? You can too, as long as you will have a car. You can visit the park how I laid it out in this post. You will book your airboat ride on your ownjust get your tickets when you show up or there might even be an option to purchase them in advance. If you do this on your own, starting from Florida City, in my opinion, it will be a better experience.

This is very easy to do without needing to take a tour. I love your detailed itinerary. Is it possible to do all of this in one day or should I plan it over two days? If we make it to lunch at Gator Grill that leaves the afternoon so we could head up to Shark Valley and the airboat in the afternoon. Thanks so much! It helps to get an early start, just to make sure you can do the tram ride and the airboat ride before closing time.

Hello from Philadelphia! Thank you for this!! Am visiting Everglades next month and will follow this guide. We have the same goaland all of sudden, it seems like 1 or 2 national parks get added every year. Hello from Poland! Thank you for this post! Though Shark Valley sounds really cool! Do you have any other suggestions for where to check out on the west end of the park closer to Everglades City?

Hello Sabrina. If you go to the Gulf Coast Visitor Center on the western side of the Everglades, they should be able to give you lots of recommendations. Unfortunately, it was closed during our visit because of the recent hurricane damage. There is a boat tour agency, Everglades Area Tours, in that region that you could contact for boat tours. Great post, this helped me sort out the south part of our Florida trip, thanks!

Onto your Florida Keys post! Did you have to reserve a space on the airboat? When we did this, we just showed up and got on the next tour it was in the afternoon, probably around 3 pm. They do offer lots of tours, so you might be OK just showing up like we did. Plus, there are several companies in the same area, so if for reason you had to wait for one, another company might have availability.

I am planning a mid December trip which includes 1. I fly into Miami on Dec14th. It will be noon by the time I drive out of the airport in my rental car. So Dec 14th is half a day. Then the 15th is full day Everglades. I need to be back in Miami by 11am on Dec16th. Wondering if you have a recommendation for how I should split up my time.

Stay near Homestead. Then a full day at Shark Valley with the airboat ride and bicycle rental. Your plan works, but you will have to move fast on day 1 because of the short day sunset is pm in mid-December. It takes 2. It can be done, but but you will have to move fast. I recommend visiting the sights as you drive past them on the way to Flamingo VC, and then drive back to Homestead in the dark. Your next day will be more leisurely.

You could sleep either near Shark Valley or in Miami on day 2. So, if you did one of those on the morning of day 2, and then with the drive to the south sights, your timing is the same for the Flamingo area. I hope that makes sense.

If we hire a car on our arrival Thursday evening and drop off for our flight to Cuba around noon Saturday do you think we can manage your itinerary? Hello Anthony. Yes, you have one full day so you have plenty of time. Just get started early I recommend staying near the park, Homestead is a good city because it has lots of hotels and restaurants and that evening, you could stay in Homestead again or drive back to Miami. February is a great month to visit!

Have a nice trip. Flamingo is open for business the convenience store is open and the gas pumps are operating they have diesel fuel as well, I hope this is heloful. Hi Julie, I loved your blog. It was very informative.

Can you suggest Airboat Ride Near Me Roll places to eat lunch. I see coopertown restaurant or I know that Shark valley has restaurant.

Any recommendations.? We ate at the Gator Grill just outside of Homestead. You could also go into Homestead for a bite to eat. There will be lots of restaurants to choose from in this area. I was thinking of planning 2 days for Everglades Do you think that will do it?
