Excellent tour for young families. Even if you are not dining at the Walter Peak Station homestead then the cruise on this beautifully restored steam ship is thoroughly worthwhile The scenery is "picture postcard" perfect - regardless of winter, summer, or autumn.
The ship has good facilities, however can be a bit cramped and seating hard to get on very full days - but there is so much to see you don't mind standing!! The crew are polite and very informative - a great asset to the company! I have done this experience a few times and each time it excels itself. The cruise on the TSS Earnslaw is stunning on its own, but to be followed by a delightful lunch just tops the experience.
We had an amazing bbq lunch after a cruise on the Earnslaw and would definetly recommend it. I would arrive early for the cruise though as it is very popular. This company lives up to its name and more. It provides travel experiences in New Zealand tailored to suit the budget of travelers. Real Journeys also contributes financially to the restoration and rehabilitation of the environs they use in their trips and us such this makes the company a highly commendable citizen of the community it serves.
We would recommend that you consider the Real Journeys Company for any tourist activity you plan to do in New Zealand. The journey to get to there is a fabulous experience in itself but dining at the homestead is crown jewel of the day. The setting is lakeside and the panoramic view stunning. The backdrop is the soaring and majestic Walter Peak.
The interior dining area is a beautiful reconstruction of a time gone by and the ambience wonderfully appropriate for the buffet style dining to come.
The choice of vegetable foods is plentiful and beautifully presented. Both hot and cold varieties are available.
