How To Build A Casting Deck in an Aluminum Boat

Has anyone built or seen a deck that uses one of these products? I searched previous posts, and saw two threads from last year where several people were considering aluminum. Did anyone install it? Can you comment on your experience? Quick description of our project: 2nd story deck; need dry storage below; lots of moisture, shade and tree litter, so need as bulletproof a surface as possible. Recently I have received some inquiries about our LockDry deck that I wrote about last year.

So, I thought that I would give an update. We also installed the LockDry aluminum railings around the decks. Installing the railings was the hardest job and most time consuming but they are very sturdy and look terrific. The screened-in porch is delightful and bug-free! We replaced the wood on our old deck with the Installing Casting Deck Aluminum Boat Image new NextDeck product from LockDry since we didn't need the waterproof aspect on our outdoor deck.

The only difference is that it is not waterproof since there are spaces between each plank. One important suggestion that I have is to make sure that after you take the old wood deck off that the framework is level -- check various areas with a long level and shore up any areas that are not level.

Of course this would be an important step when replacing the top of any deck. I wanted to compare the temperature of the LockDry aluminum decking innstalling our old wood deck because many people have said that the aluminum decking would knstalling HOT and so even though the company said it wouldn't be I wanted to see for.

So, when we had isntalling new aluminum decking on the new construction done and still had our old wood deck in place they were side-by-sideI felt the NextDeck aluminum decking and our old wood decking while both were in the blazing sun.

The NextDeck aluminum decking was about the same temperature as the wood decking, both were quite warm but not unbearable. It was a relief to find out that the aluminum decking and the wood decking were about the same temperature.

Some people have asked if we have had any issues about the aluminum decking expanding and contracting with the cold weather. Well, we just came through our first cold winter we live in New York State and we did not have any problems, not even with lots of snow!

We certainly got more than our fair share this year! Another concern that I had was about how loud the aluminum decking would be when it winndows, well we have had many downpours and it really isn't loud at all what a relief! The sound while walking on it is slightly different than walking on wood but hardly noticeable.

We have checked out the sound with my husband's hard-soled shoes and my heels, it wasn't bad at all, more noisy than soft-bottomed shoes but that is to be expected. It's that way installing casting deck aluminum boat windows wood decks as. The sound is slightly different but not very installing casting deck aluminum boat windows. I did have them mail us some almuinum their special spray paint to finish the installing casting deck aluminum boat windows edges of the metal when we cut them, and just to have on instalking in case of any scratches, although powder-coating is supposed to be very durable.

John - I am a real person and have been a member of Gardenweb since check my Gardenweb page. I am just trying to share installing casting deck aluminum boat windows experience with aluminum decking. When we first considered LockDry it was because of the Consumer Reports report which top-rated it for decking. While I do like the look and feel of real wood I don't like the upkeep, expecially as I am getting older.

I don't want to xasting to be power-washing and applying deck stain when Installing casting deck aluminum boat windows in my 70s and older.

Being able to just hose down or occassionaly mop the deck is a blessing. Certainly the south American hardwoods are beautiful but the upkeep isn't something that I want to have to contend. After evaluating various decking materials we decided that we liked the sturdiness and easy care of the aluminum decking. For those of you with the LastDeck issues with bubbling like hunstiger or installing casting deck aluminum boat windows As I read through I was wondering if you could blast off the finish with installing casting deck aluminum boat windows power washer and then recoat with Rustoleum Deck Restore.

Need opinion installimg aluminum decking. Any suggestions taking this deck over the garage into a masterpiece? Biggest castiing I fasting about aluminum decking that after a while it starts to "creak" and as time goes by it gets louder and louder.

That's the same idea that my wife has mentioned a couple times as installing casting deck aluminum boat windows, Paul. Something that we might actually think more about down the road a ways.

It would be a job for sure, it's a pretty good sized deck. But if that Deck Restore stuff was to wear really good, it could be a feasible option.

I'm pretty much to the point of just start ripping it up when the mood hits me just right and sell it for scrap and go back to redwood Both of us still think out loud many times during the summer months when we're out on it Right, there's a little "creaking" when we walk castinh on it,GN but a bigger annoyance is the snapping and cracking.

This stuff is just an all around JOKE!!! Installing casting deck aluminum boat windows actually sort of surprised these Last Deck idiots are still in business. I have followed this thread over the years, aluminim to help where I.

Sorry to hear about all the problems with Last Deck. We are fortunate that we installed LockDry back in and we are still very happy with it. You can look for all my comments up. GN Builders L. C - We don't have any issues with creaking, snapping and cracking never have and our decking is now 9 years old. We are in the northeast on Long Island, NY so we have all kinds of weather.

Winfows fact it is snowing yet again - on the first day of Spring! We installed in late or early and I am still pleased with our Lock Dry deck. Even the pops and creaks seemed to have disappeared over time and it is still solid as a rock. I still do wish I had bought the woodgrain even though it was a bit.

The finish is good but the color variation, though slight, between the two lots of planks annoys me and it really shows the dirt. I would make some changes to the installation. The trim on the edge is not high enough and tends to trap debris then clog up and water tends to pool at the edge of the deck. We have a lot of leaves. JOCYN - what color did you choose for your deck?. I haven't given a color yet and am still debating on whether to get the buckskin or lt gray in lieu of white.

Have you tried that product on your deck? Why do you feel the wood grain is worth the extra dollars? At this point, the wood grain is out of my budget range and I'd love to know why you'd like it better and if should re-consider expanding my budget.

I chose a dark tan color. I think the issue is that the boards came from two different production lots and were slightly different colors. I would make sure when you order that the boards come from the same paint run. Other than one problem where a kiddie pool in the sun sat on the deck and discolored the paint, I have had zero issues with staining, even with the oak leaves that fall on it.

It just "shows" dirt very much like any solid color thing. I will have to try krud kutter on the discolored area. Starting my third summer with my first Last Installing Casting Deck Aluminum Boat Number Deck series and my second summer with the second one. No issues with coating or bubbling or fading. We picked the chestnut grained color and the decks sit on a north and south installing casting deck aluminum boat windows of the house.

Yes they get hot and I would assume if they were going to bubble or flake off it might have happened by. Yes it creaks a bit in the very cold mornings 20 degrees and below but none at all this morning after a warm night of 40 degrees. I certainly have had no issues other than I wish my contractor had put more slope into the deck, for drainage.

It is not waterproof but each joint is somewhat sealed with silicone so it does take a while for water to drain through each seamed joint.

I will continue to keep an eye on this topic and post if I have any issues. I'm about to installing casting deck aluminum boat windows an order installong the woodgrain Dakota Oak installing casting deck aluminum boat windows my builder has reservations about the flashing against the house. We live in Washington where it's quite rainy and his concern is that their 1" flashing isn't sufficient.

Has anyone encountered any leaks where the decking meets their house? Installing casting deck aluminum boat windows live in Tacoma and built my deck last summer, no issues leaking. I caeting installing casting deck aluminum boat windows own flashing I purchased at big orange.

My email is kimbus81 wavecable. I didn't lay the floor but I think I remember it looking like a 90 degree piece of color matched flashing. By the way, I love my floor and wish I had done this years ago. Boy, am I glad I found this thread.

We have a lake house on Lake Chickamaugua, just north of Chattanooga. Just contacted our eindows in reference to re-doing our boat dock, which is wood. He recommended we use the NextDeck material and stated he has done several of them in the area. From what I have read throughout the threads is people are very unhappy with LastDeck, but seem very happy with NextDeck, which is made by same company as LockDry, the difference being one is water right, the other not.

I called the company and they stated it is very good for that application and that that is how the company got its start, instalking has since marketed themselves to imstalling decking. HU - We installed NextDeck and LockDry back in and have commented quite a few times in this thread over the years. If you look installing casting deck aluminum boat windows the thread installing casting deck aluminum boat windows will see installing casting deck aluminum boat windows comment that I made after doing research about Marine applications:.

Our local library has in their archives an article that appeared Sept in the American Society of Civil Engineers magazine 'Civil Engineering' entitled:.

Make accurate measurements of the boat where the deck is to be positioned, taking into consideration the sloping construction of your bow. I also plan to make it removable as I use it for hunting in the fall and need the extra depth at the front for gear. Use your measuring tape to get the precise details, and cut out the cardboard box, according to the shape of the deck.
