Seneca County Health Departments have yet to announce a decision as to whether or not high-risk sport competition will be permitted. According to the Tompkins health department, officials are reviewing the guidance for high-risk sports and a decision should be made in the coming days. Currently, school districts are waiting for their respective county health department to make a decision before announcing what they intend to do.
Representatives from the District have meetings with both entities in the early part of this week. From there, district superintendents can choose whether or not to allow those sports to compete. However, at a Board of Education meeting on Monday Jan. Executive Director Bill Bryant said based on the COVID statistics across all seven counties it is going to be difficult to get all of the counties to consent to high-risk sports competition. Governor Cuomo's proposal to scale up New York's green economy is an important story and one all New Yorkers should support. The new plan emphasizes New Yorkbased renewable manufacturing, bringing good-paying jobs. Of special interest to upstate and Western New York are the expansion of renewable energy storage capacity in the region and a mile transmission line from Niagara Falls to Elma to maximize hydropower output.
Major offshore wind and solar projects are also in the works for various parts of the state. As a mother and a member of Mothers Out Front, I encourage our community to applaud these efforts to mitigate climate change. But even more needs to be done.
